Dirt on Donna Frye?!
Ok this came from a guy I've known for sometime--he's my plumber so I don't want to do anything to piss him off--and has his "own opinions" about a lot of things.

He told me today that he is a personal friend of Jerry Sanders-- which is how he knows this stuff--and Jerry lives a few doors away from Mr Plumber.

He tells me that Donna Frye has numerous drunk driving convictions, a history of drug abuse, and various other sundry criminal charges and convictions.

He also tells me that all the talkshow host know about this stuff, but "don't want to get into it". Now, I guess if Donna Frye actually had any more than a parking ticket in her past, Rick & Roger would be screaming from the rooftops.

Now, as I mentioned, this guy is a plumber I've trusted for years, and I don't want to get into political arguments with him, because I have an old house and I don't want to have to find another plumber.

I didn't push him at all on the issue, but is there anything to those accusations, did the plumber fabricate them ,or has this rightradio fodder for sometime that I just haven't heard yet?

1. never heard such a thing..
and if she so much as had one, let alone multiple DUIs, as well as the "various other sundry criminal charges and convictions" it would be all over the airwaves at KFMB and KOGO. I would say your plumber is full of shit.

2. Her former problems with alcohol are actually not a secret
Edited on Mon Oct-24-05 11:02 PM by calipendence
She used to be an alcoholic in an abusive previous marriage before she met her current husband back in 1980. She's since been clean after being married to Skip Frye. I don't know of anything about DUI etc., but I think they need to stick with what's on the record, and not just mix more and more rumor. It would be like me saying that Bush was a rapist, based upon rumor and a court challenge that he had raped the now deceased Margie Schoedinger.

If there is any evidence of PRESENT substance abuse, that would be different. But the likely fact that this was way in the past would completely explain why people are letting "sleeping dogs lie". They would lose their reputations too if they went after her for that when she's put it behind her already.

I still think this lady should be lauded for her efforts to try and force a change in the modus operandi of this local government where it can be more open to us and represent that average San Diego citizen, rather than the deep pocket developers, etc. that have corrupted this government to the core over the last decade or so. To let this "gutter talk" affect the race is dirty politics. By the same token, perhaps Frye supporters could also push hard on trying to nail Sanders for the circumstances he left the police force too, which have left a lot of open questions on his mental toughness in dealing with a difficult situation then. He's faced with a similar tough situation now too. I'm willing to accept his word that there wasn't anything severe in that case unless someone can bring forth documented proof otherwise, and I would hope that we could ask that people be as accepting of Donna Frye's present state of mind being solid and decent too.

4. One other note to say to potential Donna Frye voters who are undecided...
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 01:45 PM by calipendence
I helped convince one voter on the fence over the weekend to vote for Frye in precinct walking for her with one issue that might be bugging some folks but might not be talked about a lot.

She said that the one thing that bugged her about Donna Frye was asking herself why Donna didn't try to get elected in the earlier general election before the November 2004 runoff election and why did she run in as a write-in candidate?

A good question if one doesn't know the answer to this. Many people out there probably felt that she tried to "scam" that election by trying to get in on a write-in plurality rather than gaining a majority vote in a runoff after having earned it in the general election.

I recall in one of her speeches at a campaign party she addressed this issue. She noted that she hadn't even been thinking about running for Mayor until after the original general election had happened, and others suggested that she should run when some of the corruption issues were starting to leak out to the public. There was concern also that Murphy might not want to seriously stay on as mayor, which could affect the vote to go more towards Roberts too. That is the problem where events happen after a primary or a general election that changes the equation for voters.

Others convinced her to run as a write-in, and after giving it heavy thought, she eventually followed through to do so. The rest we know about. So, despite what some may have tried to depict as her motivations to run as a write-in candidate, it was NOT to scam the system to win with only a plurality of votes. It was to address what she perceived as a problem with the choices the people had for a mayor after the general election had already taken place.

After explaining that to the voter, it seemed to eliminate any concerns of her feeling of trust and integrity in Donna and she said that she'd be voting for Donna.
