SF voters show up, but they aren't smiling
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/11/08/MNG53FKRUR7.DTL

Even the free cookies being handed out by some poll workers didn't sweeten the mood of San Francisco voters, who largely said today that they think the special election was unnecessary and that they planned to vote down Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's ballot measures.

"It's a scam," said Jana Gunter, who voted this morning at Edison Charter Academy at 22nd and Dolores streets. "This was wrong, unnecessary and a waste of money. I needed to vote against Arnold."

The special election, which is part of Schwarzenegger's government reform effort, already has generated spending of more than $300 million and is among the most expensive campaigns in California history.

12. Thank you!
Exactly!

The repukes in Orange County came out in droves to vote that bastard in. On top of that, they worked some of their oh so special magic to make sure some key voters DID NOT get their voting information, absentee ballots, etc. on time.

Spoke to a friend in LA who told me she spoke to quite a few people (of color of course--hispanic and black) that didn't get their voting information for that election even though they were registered voters. Some had recently done jury duty so they knew they were 'in the system.'

I KNOW they worked their trickery to elect that idiot. AND made sure all the orange county people that were oh so upset by paying extra drivers registration fees, got out and voted.

8. I don't think the Boobengrabber carried any Bay Area counties
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 04:31 PM by Coastie for Truth
Bay Area is headed for the political orphanage
But if the Bay Area alone had voted, Bustamante would have been elected governor. The only counties in California Bustamante carried were Bay Area and North Bay counties. And he won some by big margins, like San Francisco, where he got 63 percent of the vote, and Alameda, with 53 percent.

And the best showing for Gov. Gray Davis was also in Bay Area counties. The recall lost every county touching San Francisco Bay as well as some coastal counties. In Los Angeles, which Schwarzenegger carried against Bustamante, the recall lost, but only narrowly, 49 percent to 51 percent. Everywhere else the recall won, often by huge margins.

California went through a 5-year period, starting in 1998, as a functionally 1-party state, with Democrats winning big not only in the traditionally liberal Bay Area, but throughout Southern California and in most coastal counties. The recall reversed this pattern; Republicans experienced a rebirth in Southern California, and especially in the suburbs. Schwarzenegger carried every county south of Santa Clara County. But the Bay Area remained solidly one party, Democratic.

In a way, I'm happy El Gran Grope forced this election. It will get people thinking about how manipulated they are and maybe, mebbe, it will be a little harder to flip CA.

When we moved back, we found an under market rental.

Just sayin.

16. Same here--
we're not far from the beach and the mortgages/home prices are insane--coming down though, I think. At least the houses are sitting on the market MUCH longer now than they just six months ago.

It was much more affordable for us to rent than buy.

We plan to take a trip up in the new year. I hope to spend enough time to visit some neighborhoods, check out some rentals and homes. Hold good thoughts for us...

but is about to go into gentrification. I love it and so does my water dog.

22. Nooooooo
not gentrification! Can't you guys stop it?

Sounds like a happy pup--getting to go to water daily or weekly. We're not quite as close as you are to the water, but we're not very far, more inland--if we were a mile closer the rent would be higher than it is.
