What's it like out there?

I'm tired of the concrete jungle and seeking some beauty and nature. I want to start a charity that will serve the LA area and is desperately needed, but it also requires a couple of acres, lots of dogs, and no pesty neighbors. Is this a good area to check out?

1. Probably. The commute will really suck, if you commute.

But there is space out there, and people don't live out
there so they can watch their neighbors. But there is
no subsititute for local knowledge. You should consider
Palmdale environs and Juniper Hills and Lucerne Valley,
and others. There is a lot of desert out there, once you
start looking at it.
