Tulare county prints wrong date of election |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 05:13 AM by jamesinca
It was reported in the Fresno Bee that Tulare county printed the wrong date of the election on its sample ballots. The problem is this, it only happened on the ones printed in Spanish. The election date was printed as Nov 4. There are several Dems that are running for state and federal positions, like Nicole Parra, Jim Costa, Juan Arambula. The Hispanic vote is a huge part of the central San Joaqin valley. Please spread the word to all of the Spanish media stations to do a public service announcement on this regarding the correct date.
On edit: This was reported in the Oct. 9 paper.

It seems like I am reading about misprinted ballots in many places around the country.
It is almost like they want people to use the bad ballots so their votes can be tossed.
They wouldn't do that delibertely, would they?
Nah, course not. <not>

2. Hmmm. Tulare County is mostly agricultural, and has a HUGE |
|
population of Spanish speaking voters.
It's not a small county, and has hundreds of ranches ranging from peaches to pecans to cotton. It's been a big draw for farm labor since before the Great Depression. In fact, much of the final story in Grapes of Wrath took place in Tulare County.
Suppressing a Spanish speaking vote in counties like that could have a huge impact.

3. Amazing what I learn here |
|
I will send this info out to my family. Our family history reads like the "Grapes of Wrath" story. My grandmother uprooted everyone from the Oklahoma Dust Bowl and ended up living in Tulare (the city) in the heart of Tulare County.
The part of my family that remains there are farmers (poor farmers). That area also has a huge Portuguese population that has traditionally voted Democratic.
We are three weeks from the election and the problems, intentionally created or not, are popping up all over the country.

4. Tagus ranch (off 99 between Tulare and Visalia) is the site |
|
where much of the story took place. If I'm not mistaken, it's also theh site where much of the movie was filmed. If you read the book, other small towns (like Pixley for instance) between Tulare and Bakersfield are mentioned pretty frequently.
The path the Joads took basically took them through Barstow, up through Tehachapi, down to Bakersfield, then North to Tulare County.
My grandmother lives in Tulare. My other grandmother lives in Visalia, along with most of the rest of my family.

5. We just had our family reunion in Tulare last year |
|
I beleive the name of the park is Moonie's. I'm not sure. All four of my father's siblings ended up in California. Most ended up in L.A. after living in Tulare. My father was the only one who did not stay out west. This truly sucks because I have a California mentality stuck here in the bright red state of Kansas.
I have a lot of fond memories of Tulare as a child.
