Hi Calitics Readers!

The June 3 election has come and gone. While for me personally it was quite successful, as we won on Props 98 & 99 and Mark Leno was victorious, progressives had a mixed bag of an evening last Tuesday.

In the Legislature, Mariko Yamada, a progressive Yolo County Supervisor, defeated openly gay Chris Cabaldon for a Sacramento area Assembly seat. Down in the SouthLand, moderate Rod Wright was able to snatch a seat with about $1 million in business funded "independent expenditures." The budget is once again in the news as the Senate Democrats delivered a budget proposal with $12.5 billion in additional revenue, without fully enumerating those tax increases. The state is running low on cash, and could be forced to cease providing services in August if no budget is passed. Calitics will be keeping an eye on the budget situation as we head into the critical season.
