Norhtern California DU'res, is your sky looking weird?
and if so is it because of the forest fire? I cant tell if the overcast is from smoke or not.

1. I'm in Sacramento, and it's definitely looking weird.
There are wildfires burning about 50 miles up toward Tahoe. I hear the highway 50 is closed. You can smell the smoke in the air.

2. Yes, it's because of the fire

It's just over the hill from me... although at some distance. Ash and smoke have been horrendous for three days now. Sun has been spooky red disk. Very nasty up here. Fire is 65% contained as of this morning and things are looking much better. They expect to have it 100% contained by Saturday. Here's hoping the winds don't pick up again.

On Edit: This is the Rumsey fire in Yolo and Napa counties.

3. I'm in Davis
Close to the Rumsey fire (still burning?) It's like a weird science fiction world right now.

6. My hometown
Growing up here in the 80s I was always afraid Ron Reagan was going to start a "nucular" war. As a kid I imagined the aftermath looking kind of like this. (I've lived a lot of places in between, so being back in Davis now constantly reminds me of childhood.)

Margaret Cho--funny, but never make the mistake of eating while listening to or watching her. I did once, and she got on the topic of colonics... :puke:

5. It's the fire
Yesterday the sky reminded me of Los Angles and I felt like I was back home. A big jet (from Travis AFB?) flew over the horizan yesterday as the sun set and the con trail was bright glowing orange and very pretty. Yes that sun is red and orange when the sun comes up through the purple plume clouds of smoke.

7. I am in Santa Rosa, southwest of the fire.
The wind has been blowing to the southwest for days, and they sky has been dark, ash falling, and it just reeks of smoke. Sun has been red. The wind is supposed to be shifting to a more normal direction, carrying the smoke more eastward.
