County elections officials across the state have been swamped in recent days with tens of thousands of last-minute voter registration forms, leading to predictions of problems at some polling places and delays in counting absentee ballots.

The crush of new forms has come mostly from last-minute dumps by the secretary of state's office, which has processed 500,000 new-voter forms in the last few weeks and passed them on to counties.

.
Alameda County had processed 30,000 recently received forms Monday, then got three more boxloads that day.
