Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has turned his savvy for handling the Hollywood media to his role as workaday governor, exerting directorial control over what reporters can see, hear, photograph or record.

Image, you might say, is everything.

As with President Bush, the traditional news conference has become something of an endangered species in Sacramento. Instead, Schwarzenegger's favored pipeline to the public has remained the cozy TV interview -- say on Jay Leno's couch or in Oprah Winfrey's studio.

Shouldn't this reporter have gone into more detail about how this particular story was written? Did he try to contact the governor's office? Was HE told what he could or could not write? Is HE part of Arnie's media cheerleading squad? Does HE approve or disapprove?
