initiative: governor's answer time
Like Bush, part of Arnold's success has been due to severely limiting press access.

The state legislature or the public through the initiative process should demand access and answers on a regular basis in one of two forms (or both):

1) Something like the prime minister's question time in Britain, where legislators get to ask questions.

2) Press conferences that the governor's press secretary can't eject people from or control the order or choice of questions. Reporters could draw lots or decide among themselves what gets asked.

We should be doing this on a national level too, but if we start here, we could end the era of the empty suits.

1. I really like this!
Where do I sign up? I'd prefer the legislator option over the press. It is too easy to control which members of the press would have access during a press conference.

4. RE: write your legislators...
The legislators will never take this on. The only way it might happen is with an initiative. But I'll pass this idea around and see if any organizations that I'm affiliated with want to take up the task.

5. Thanks!
Reporters are starting to figure out they can't just wait for the scraps at content free press conferences, so we have to press from other angles.

I think the democrats might do it because it would embarass the hell out of Arnold to have to VETO it. What is he going to say?

"I don't have to answer to the people"?

"I can not explain why I do things. Please ask George Shultz or Pete Wilson."
