Write KABC sponsors of Hannity and O'Reilly
Let these people know that you won't buy their products as long as they support talk radio that replaces dialogue with shouting and name-calling, and honest examination of evidence with parroting of blatant lies, as the PIPA studies have shown is true of Fox viewers.

Ad Nausea
http://www.adnausea.org/index.htm
has started a campaign to go after hannity. The names and e-mails of most of the sponsors are there.

If we can't hurt these guys in LA at least, we're pretty lame.

1. Why not take the christian taliban approach...
at least with O'Raunchy anyway. Word the letter as though you are one of those Janet Jackson titty-fearing folk, and you are sickened by his off-screen, falafel-loving, anal-probing behavior and want him removed. They seem to get their wishes all the time.

3. Here is a copy of my 1st letter
Scrolling through the list of sponsors, only Red Lobster is a "business" that makes money from our patronage (my husband and I), so I wrote them. I'd love to write Jaguar and tell them I will no longer buy their cars, but GEEZ....too bad I can't afford them so that I could honestly say that.

Here is my letter to Red Lobster:

My husband and I had dinner for my 42 Birthday at your restaurant. Everything was great! The food was delicious, and our server, Valentine (that's her real name) was sweet and attentive. We had planned to do my husband's Birthday there, too, but we have changed our minds due to being disturbed by your advertising during the Sean Hannity show. I believe in decency in news shows, and Mr. Hannity is rude, overly aggressive, and obviously bias toward the Extreme Right. We all have our right to an opinion, but his transparent hatred of Liberals offends me deeply. So I had to ask myself, "How can my husband and I feel comfortable supporting a business that is a sponsor of his show?" Simply, the response is, "We can't". It will be tough to give up a restaurant we love so much, but I feel strongly enough about this that my husband and I will spend special occasions, as well as occasional Friday or Saturday nights, at another restaurant until you choose to sponsor someone who upholds true American values: love of diversity, respect for differing points of view, appropriate role modeling for our young kids, integrity and understanding that we can agree to disagree without violently attacking someone with verbal assaults.

Thanks for considering my thoughts and feelings in this issue.

Tell them you won't consider them and will tell your liberal elite friends not to buy them either.

11. Jaguar
You might have considered Jaguar for your first luxury car, but now it will definitely be a bimmer.

You can also say you will have to tell your friends with a lot of disposible income to buy some other luxury car.

6. My letter to Eisner and Mitchell (chairman of Disney)
Edited on Mon Nov-22-04 09:31 AM by yurbud

November 21, 2004

Michael Eisner George Mitchell
CEO Chairman
The Walt Disney Co.
500 S. Buena Vista Street
Burbank, CA 91521-9722

Dear Sen. Mitchell,

Please end the broadcast of Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly on the ABC radio network.

I realize that this is a serious thing to ask, but the damage these people do to democracy is more serious. These men have replaced civil discourse with name calling, and seeking the truth with peddling lies.

When Bill O’Reilly had Jeremy Glick, the son of a 9/11 victim who signed a petition against the Afghanistan War, on his show, he shouted him down for mentioning that the Taliban we were attacking were the same fundamentalists we trained in the 80s to fight the Soviets (a historical fact). O’Reilly insulted him, kicked him off the show, then proceeded to lie about his appearance in subsequent programs. The whole incident and his lies after the fact are shown in the documentary film Outfoxed.

Both O’Reilly and Hannity have consistently parroted the White House talking points that are demonstrable lies. Hannity followed their line that any criticism of the War in Iraq is an attack on our troops, as demonstrated in the recent arms dump issue:

SEAN HANNITY (FOX News Channel co-host and ABC Radio Networks host): He's using a false report in The New York Times to attack the president, defame our troops as he did 33 years ago to undermine the war effort, our reputation throughout the world. ... Basically, and this what John Kerry's doing here. John Kerry is saying, basically, the troops failed. By -- by advancing this phony story, he's saying the troops failed. ... The troops that are out there in harm's way are being slandered. Their reputations are being sullied. They're being described as failures.

O’Reilly has also done this on a number of issues including denying President Bush’s opposition to forming the 9/11 Commission:

From the October 21 broadcast of the nationally syndicated The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly:

O'REILLY: "They said they <9-11 widow Kristen Breitweiser, featured in the ad, and her late husband> voted for Bush , but Bush opposed the 9-11 Commission -- which he didn't, by the way. He didn't oppose it. I mean, he had questions about it because he didn't want it politicized."

In fact, Bush did oppose the creation of the 9-11 Commission. According to CBS News, the reason Bush opposed the establishment of an independent commission was that "the investigation should be confined to Congress because it deals with sensitive information that could reveal sources and methods of intelligence. Therefore, he said, the congressional investigation is 'the best place' to probe the events leading up to the terrorist attacks."

Even more seriously he has consistently parroted lies about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction, including about the recent Duelfer report as noted by Media Matters for America:

discussing Duelfer's report on the October 8 broadcast of The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly, O'Reilly falsely asserted that Hussein, in O'Reilly's words, "did not have weapons of mass destruction, but that they could have reconstituted those programs very, very quickly if they had wanted to."

Although O'Reilly said Iraq's ability to quickly reconstitute its WMD programs is "not debatable," the Duelfer report refutes his claim. As the report notes, "Saddam aspired to develop a nuclear capability -- in an incremental fashion." Further, the Duelfer report notes that "Saddam wanted to recreate Iraq's WMD capability -- which was essentially destroyed in 1991 -- after sanctions were removed and Iraq's economy stabilized" and that Iraq "had no formal written strategy or plan for the revival of WMD after sanctions. Neither was there an identifiable group of WMD policy makers or planners separate from Saddam."

The effect that this is having on the public’s ability to make informed decisions about what their government is doing is devastating. At one point, polls showed as many as 70% of Americans believed Saddam Hussein was involved in the 9/11 attack when no credible evidence has been presented to support that. The Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA) at the University of Maryland found that key misperceptions like Saddam having ties to Al Qaida, WMD had already been found in Iraq, and most of the world supported our invasion of Iraq were more likely in Fox News viewers, the network where both Hannity and O’Reilly also work and use identical rhetoric that used on your network.

FOX CBS ABC NBC CNN Print Sources NPR/ PBS
None of the 3 20% 30% 39% 45% 45% 53% 77%
1 or more misperceptions 80 71 61 55 55 47 23

I like to hear views I disagree with, but if someone knowingly lies, that’s not debate. Tha’ts propaganda. When I was a kid, Disney represented all the was best about America. The longer you broadcast these demagogues, the more likely Disney will be remember as a contributor to the death of democracy.

10. Red Lobster responded!!
Here is Red Lobster's response to me (see post #3 for my 1st letter) It's a bullshit response, so be sure to see my reply to this letter at the end of this post.

Dear-----
Thank you for your interest in Red Lobster; it is always a pleasure to hear from our guests.

We place TV advertising based on viewership and other demographic characteristics. We take great care to ensure our advertising appears on programming that is suitable for families and does not contain explicit violence, controversial subjects or other inappropriate content.

We purchase advertising months in advance of when a particular show airs. Because of the press' constitutional protections and the fact that many news stories are "breaking" or live, we are not able to get advanced scripts for television news reports as we are for other programming.

I appreciate the opportunity to discuss this with you. We always want to hear from our guests.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Sincerely,

Janet
Guest Relations Representative

My response to that load of CROCK:

Janet,
Nevertheless, I will boycott your restaurant until ads are pulled from Sean Hannity's show. He is known to be an Extreme Right-winger. By sponsoring him, I am lead to believe you share his values.

14. Thanks for that contact info
My husband and I will be home this T-day, so after I plant my 50 tulip bulbs (in my gardening zone 9, that's the time to do it)I'll sit down and pen another letter.

Once again, I have always believed that bleeding the corporate wallet is the best way to get a point across. Corporate America LOVES their $$$$$$. It's all about their freakin' $$$$$$$$$ !!!!!!

Thanks again!

17. Hannity sponsors respond--get your friends to write them!
I just got this e-mail from ad nausea. Some sponsors are feeling the heat. Let's turn it up. Get more of your friends on board.

Hello everyone:

Just a quick note to let you know that Ad Nausea will be listed on Media Matters as a contact whenever they do a piece on Hannity from his radio show!  When our link is live, I'll let everyone know!

As well, we are starting to hear back from two advertisers (Naked Juice & Air Trans) who have obviously received a lot of emails!   Both are now claiming that they don't advertise on KABC.  Once KABC removes their logos from their site, we will remove them from ours!   In the meantime, thanks for your help.  We have more work to do, so keep those emails flowing.

Also, on Dkos yesterday, there was an open thread http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/11/28/10302/382

where we were talking about doing a Jan. 20th "No Consumption" boycott.  I proposed the following:

"Please join us on January 20th as we tell "Mr. Mandate" that we may have lost the election, but not our voices.   If Dubya intends to spend his political capital, we can choose to NOT spend ours:

Join us as we choose to stop all consumption on January 20th.  On this day, we will not buy one thing.  Not food, not gas, not one purchase will be made.  Nothing.  Call in sick if you can.   Let's see what that does to Dubya's "thriving economy."

Speak out and tell this administration that they cannot govern half a nation.  We are NOT "buying your mandate."  Literally."

I said that I would post a diary tonight on Dkos at 6 PM PST, 11/29 -- which I will do.  If anyone has any suggestions or input -- let me know before I post.  Send me an email with suggestions, etc.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Barbara H
