California Still Has Highest Average Gas Prices
California Still Has Highest Average Gas Prices
U.S. Gas Prices Climb Another 3 Cents Per Gallon

POSTED: 4:18 p.m. EDT April 25, 2004
UPDATED: 4:19 p.m. EDT April 25, 2004

LOS ANGELES -- U.S. gasoline prices climbed another 3 cents per gallon in the past two weeks on the strength of high crude oil prices, tight capacity and soaring demand, an analyst said Sunday.

The nationwide average for all gasoline grades, including taxes, was nearly $1.86 per gallon on Friday, up 3.07 cents from April 9, according to the Lundberg Survey of 8,000 stations nationwide.

The average price "has broken all-time record highs for two months straight," although it remained about $1 a gallon lower than the peak price of March 1981 when adjusted for inflation, Trilby Lundberg said.

Since Dec. 19, the average gas price has risen 34.55 cents, she added.

3. they also have the highest gas tax..
if I'm not mistaken, the state has a pretty hefty tax on gas there, and more regulation about the type of gas "ethanol" ? that must be supplied. I paid $1.62 in Kentucky yesterday...which is a high for this area.

4. Closing Refineries?
I went to the March for Women's Lives here in LA, and someone told me that they've been closing refineries here in California. The woman said that one company wanted to close its refinery, because it wasn't profitable, but that consumer groups discovered that, in fact, the refinery was one of the most profitable in the nation.

Can anyone coroborate this? (with links, if available?)

8. It's a dirty business.
There is so much price manipulation in the gasoline business... the more I read about it the more disgusted I get.

9. I paid 2.49 today
for 91 octane at the 76 by the BART station in Colma (SF Bay Area). I am real cheap, too, so it killed me to pay it.

11. Ouch
I find that Arco regular is the cheapest here. $2.15 last time I filled up. Of course, I'm not driving much with my right arm in a cast...

(Massage Therapist with a broken wrist... Waaaaaaaaaaa!)

BTW, you think you're cheap? Every time I walk down the street all the birds announce it to everybody, "cheap cheap cheap!!"
