USGS called it a "micro" event , a 1.9
It sure shook the shit out of our house. I mean everything shook good thing it stopped quickly. 12:14 am 6 mi. E of desert Hot Springs. 11 miles from here probably closer since I think they measure from city hall. Scary!

1. Must have been fairly shallow.
We used to feel shakers all the time that weren't even traceable on the more extensive quake lists. Sometimes I would feel one at our house, and my mom, who lived a block away, but on the other side of a small fault,, wouldn't, and vice versa. I think sometimes you also feel this more localized movement. Glad you're okay and hope you have a quiet night. Maybe you're close to the end of that fault or to a connecting one.

This event has been reviewed by a seismologist.

A light earthquake occurred at 12:10:46 AM (PST) on Wednesday, January 12, 2005.
The magnitude 4.3 event occurred 11 km (7 miles) E of Desert Hot Springs, CA.
The hypocentral depth is 8 km ( 5 miles).

the dishes were rattling in the cupboards and the whole hous shuttered. The San Andreas is at the surface about 5 ni from here,
