State Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero (D) suggests Shelley quit
Sacramento -- One of the Legislature's highest-ranking Dem- ocrats suggested Monday that embattled Secretary of State Kevin Shelley should resign, a dramatic sign that support from Shelley's own political party is quickly evaporating.

State Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero, D-Los Angeles, told The Chronicle she expects Shelley to resign and that it would be better for the party if he did. She questioned whether he can effectively run elections in California.

Shelley faces multiple investigations about a fund-raising scandal and allegations of misconduct in office. He is scheduled to testify under oath before a legislative hearing next week about a state audit that concluded he mismanaged federal voting act money.

People who have spoken with Shelley recently say he has discussed quitting and what he might do after leaving office.

1. good for her
he's more of a liability to the state party than an asset

if the party leaders continue to back him, it's going to give Ahnuld and the Repukes ammo to show that the Democrats don't care about the people--only power

I for one want to see him gone--he's done a crappy job in the office and he's a scandal waiting to happen

2. next Garamendi, Angelides,Westly, Lockyer
and Bustamante. Davis was only the beginning. Imperfect Dems are inferior to perfect Pukes. Senator Romero thinks she's safe?

Just kiddin'. But you are correct SIR! (still channeling Ed McMahon)

From what I've been reading, Kevin has really dug himself in this one.

6. anyone Arnold appointed would be untrustworthy
Arnold is hooked into to the same energy money and Karl Rove advice as Bush. Part of their plan for electoral success is ensuring that their people make the voting machines, count the votes, and decide whose vote counts.

It is a fatal mistake to let Arnold have his finger in that office in any way.

23. Clark Kelso was appointed as the interim Commissioner
and then Harry Low came in a few months later and stayed for the rest of the term until Garamendi was took office. I think the pukes would have a very difficult time bringing him down.

32. It would take a lot of deaths to sway control of the State Senate
Democrats currently control the Senate by a 25-15 margin.

16. Myself, I intend to concentrate on Arnolds failings
And wait until charges are proven. I will not force a Dem out of office in mid term with a Puke Gov ready to name a mole to destroy all the progress made under Shelley, re: bbv.The alternative is just too gastly. Do you really trust the Cal Dems to properly stand up to Arnold?I sure as fuck don't. Look at them.

but you're missing the picture-people aren't going to trust any of the Democrats if we just try and sweep this under the rug

do you want to give the Repukes even more ammo to use against the Democrats

28. hmm...giving donor's son a job vs. letting energy pirates steal $bil...
Arnold is backed by the people that deregulated our energy, engineered our power crisis and blackout, blamed the resulting deficits on Davis, outed him with a recall, and put Arnold in who said he wouldn't pursue lawsuits against these guys to get our tax BILLIONS back.

But you guys have your panties in a knot about Shelley giving some retard a job.

Get your head out of your ass.

Shelley is a chokepoint in the fight for democracy, and the GOP is choking it.

At the end of his term, encourage him not to run again.

Jesus, it's creepy to see so many stealth GOP PR people here.

17. I don't know about anyone else but I'm terrified.......
If Shelley quits and Arnold appoints someone, you can be sure it will be someone who is going to screw with us the way Blackwell screwed with Ohio!! I know Dems have to approve this person, but Arnold will not put up anyone that doesn't serve his purpose. I think if Shelley quits, we can give up California's electoral votes to the Republicans in 2008. I also believe this was the SOLE reason for the recall and getting Arnold in as governor in the first place. This has been in the works for a long time.

25. Romero is clueless
about the voting issue in this country.

Another instance of Dems shooting each other before the Repugs get to it.

This man may be dirty, but HE'S THE FIRST ONE TO STAND UP AGAINST THE REPUBLICAN voting machines.

Tell me, with a straight face, this is no co-incidence.
