Feinstein email - Social Security
I posted this in GD-Politics, too. I'm still pissed about the Rice vote. I guess we'll see what she does with SS.

Dear XXXX

Thank you for expressing your opposition to President Bush's
proposal to partially privatize Social Security. This will certainly be a
critical issue throughout the 109th Congress and I welcome the
opportunity to respond.

Like you, I recognize the importance of keeping Social Security
sound and ensuring its solvency for older Americans. For this reason,
I strongly oppose private accounts, which could cost $1 trillion or more
and still fail to improve the financial condition of Social
Security. Unless I see a proposal that protects the fiscal health of Social
Security and does not dramatically increase the national debt, I will
continue my opposition.

Most policy makers agree that the rate of growth of this program,
as well as the oversight of its expenditures, must be addressed to ensure
its integrity and preservation. President Bush favors a program of private
savings accounts and will pursue such a program in the coming months.
Please know that I am committed to protecting Social Security and I will
keep your comments in mind throughout the 109th Congress. I am
confident that if Congress works together, it is possible that Social
Security can meet its long term commitments.

Once again, thank you for contacting me. I hope you will keep
in touch on issues of importance to you. Should you have any further
questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call my Washington,
D.C. office at (202) 224-3841.

Sincerely yours,

Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator

Thank God for Boxer. Feinstein will hopefully not run next term. If she does, I hope she has a strong Democratic opponenet for whom I will vote.

2. "Willie" or "Jerry" or Waxman
could be the "strong Democratic opponent" or even Ira Ruskin (love the way he knocked off Steve Poizner).

But either "Brown" - Willie or Jerry - is okay with me.

3. Too late
I'm sure her dem opponent will be totally against privitization of Social Security and would have still voted against Rice's nomination.

4. She also voted against Gonzalez.
Maybe she's finally figuring out that a lot of people aren't happy about her vote for Condi, or her vote on the Ohio electors.

At least her staff will tell you how she plans to vote, even if they know it's not the answer you want to hear.

Duncan Hunter, my rethug Congressman, has his staff give weasel answers. They won't even tell you how he voted AFTER the vote. Thank goodness for the Internet, so now we can find out and air his dirty laundry.

6. Feinstein is Notoriously Unavailable to Constituents
... and you might as well get used to it.

Her phone is usually tied up because it is usually off the hook. Trust me; her email is NEVER read. She openly disparages her duty to represent constituents.

I know this sounds harsh, but the word has been around Washington DC for more than a dozen years now, and it's time this forum realize it. Feinstein simply can't be treated as a real Democratic Party Senator.

I don't know who should run against her in the primary -- but no Statewide elected official would dare to. Alquist or Davis might have some ideas. ... in the end, someone would probably need to be recruited from the Legislature -- maybe someone who is about to get hacked by the Term Limit requirement.

Even a modest primary contender would cost DiFi re-election. If Der Gropenator runs (as the rumor goes) then DiFi will lose anyway.
