The fix is in again - Florida will reject thousands of new voter apps
http://www.sptimes.com/2004/10/05/State/Box_may_prevent_hundr.shtml
Glenda, the evil witch, has informed Florida counties to reject applications where a box isn't checked saying that they're a US citizen, even though they have to sign that they're a citizen at the bottom of the application. Only Miami-Dade is accepting the unchecked apps.

2. Ummmmm.... didn't Bush fail to file paperwork on time...
... to get on the Florida ballot?

Wonder if she was quite such a stickler for detail on that one.

3. they swore the oath but didn't check the box. the gist of the dispute:
"...It's not enough for new Florida voters to swear an oath that they are U.S. citizens, Secretary of State Glenda Hood says. They also have to make sure they check a little box on their voter registration form. ...

At issue is an opinion written by Hood's general counsel, Richard A. Perez, last Thursday and forwarded to all 67 county supervisors of elections on Friday.

Voter registration forms should be deemed incomplete if applicants did not check the box and sign the oath, Perez wrote.

But opponents say state law merely calls for 'an indication that the applicant is a citizen of the United States.'

Other states, including Republican stronghold Colorado and swing state Ohio, have concluded that a signature attesting to citizenship is enough. ..."

Surely this isn't the end of it?

8. Hasn't the South learned yet that denying the right to vote over petty
stupid things is against the law? How many times must COngress pass these laws? How many Amendments do we need? Jesus! Enough already.

12. Send this to Senators Bob Graham and Bill Nelson right away.
We were able to expose the *felon list* 2004 redux by blasting it to CNN this past summer.

So, let's move out!!

17. I turn my back for one minute and what does Florida do?
Honestly, how can fairminded people keep up with the corrupt practices of this state?

Do they really believe that 2004 will be business as usual? That there will be no scrutiny? No public outcry? That their disenfranchised citizens will go home with tails tucked 'tween their legs?

Fat chance. They may face riots in the streets. People have been feverishly awaiting an opportunity to voice their opinions in the upcoming election.

I know if I were a new voter turned away from the polls for such a flimsy reason, I would probably end up in jail for losing my temper and bashing someone in face.

Aren't there any judges in Florida who could prevent this? Isn't it a violation of a whole bunch of state laws as well as Federal?

Why are the election officials so proud of themselves? That is the worst part. These people have been entrusted to accurately and fairly register and count votes not to create barriers. Poll taxes...literacy tests...hooded night riders. We have all seen these kinds of tactics before, haven't we?

I am writing now! Thanks.
