Oswego may rename Route 34 after Hastert |
|
http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/beaconnews/top/a28route34.htm
OSWEGO — A well-traveled stretch of Route 34 soon could be renamed in honor of one of the Fox Valley's favorite sons — U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert.
The plan being considered by Oswego village officials would designate a roughly 4-mile stretch of Route 34 between the Aurora city limits and the Route 71 intersection as Dennis Hastert Way.
It would be the most significant public tribute to date for the 62-year-old Hastert, who was born in Aurora, grew up in Oswego and taught high school in Yorkville before beginning his unlikely rise to national political prominence.
Since being elected as House Speaker in 1999, Hastert has funneled millions of dollars into the Oswego area, including money for schools, police and fire departments, roads and bridges.

I grew up outside of Oswego in Boulder Hill. Went to Oswego High School.
Of course I haven't been back in 25 years.

on the face of it, anyway. I'm just pissed at a partisan level and am not willing to give at GOP tool any credit. Sure, Hastert could be given credit for good things and enhancing the community. But at what cost? At what cost to the greater community, that being the rest of the nation?
I've lived for too long under Republican majority and been slapped too many times for being Democrat and a liberal. When Hastert and the GOP shows a desire to give credit where credit is dur, shows a desire to work WITH members for "the other side of the aisle", and demonstrates a willingness to acknowledge working with individuals who don't hold the political labels of Republican/conservative, then maybe I'll view this in a more favorale light.
Until then, screw 'em. I'm tired of reaching out and trying to work to find common ground while getting slapped in the face.
