Daily Herald (suburban Chicago) endorses...KERRY
Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 08:16 AM by xray s
They endorsed Bush in 2000.

http://www.dailyherald.com/oped/index.asp

....They have driven the budget deficit to record levels with no honest plan to reverse course.

With Medicare prescriptions, they have created one of the most expensive social entitlements in history while at the same time tying the hands of the government to control its costs. They have turned their backs on more than a century of Republican commitment to the environment and preservation of natural resources.

They have adopted a social agenda that calls for more federal intrusion into the lives of citizens and more power for Washington to override traditional state powers. All of these run counter to a constructive conservative direction. Most fly in the face of principles we cited in endorsing Bush four years ago.

Most seriously, the president rushed the nation into a war in Iraq that increasingly looks unwinnable, using a shifting series of justifications. The war has further destabilized the Middle East. It has siphoned resources needed to stabilize Afghanistan and hunt down Osama bin Laden's organization and face tyrannies that appear even more threatening in Iran and North Korea. We simply cannot endorse this record or the man most responsible for it....

1. Wow, they are conservative, too!
That endorsement is exactly what I'd expect to see out of a usually conservative perspective. Deficit spending, the drug program and the built in lack of ability to control spending on it, and the illegal war justified by a series of lies.

I have got to admit, I was wondering when we'd begin to see the *REAL* conservative views coming out. I knew it had to be out there--shoot--Buchanan has been talking this regime down for quite a while now. Scared heck outta me when I actually AGREED with Pat a few times there!

Glad to see the Daily Herald step up!

2. When the Daily Herald endorses Kerry and the Trib doesn't,
the world is upside down. The DH is way more conservative than the Trib normally.

I have seen where soem groups of fiscal conservatives have turned against Bush re the gargantuan deficits and their view of him that he is spending like a drunken sailor. They admitted they complained about Clinton, but compared to Bush they were sorry they complained about Clinton as he was running surpluses and lowering the deficit.

4. All I can say is...
:wow:

I am seeing more Kerry stickers (and a few yard signs) than I had expected. I've also gotten some thumbsups on my bumper stickers. It seems about the only place left in Illinois that's still Democrat is Chicago and Cook County to the south. The suburbs and downstate are all a strong conservative/RepubliCON majority.

In DuPage County, there are 14 seats up (not including Judicial). The State's Attorney, County Auditor, and County Recorder are all running unopposed by a Democrat. That's just local...

Check out the rest here: http://www.dupageelections.com/pdf/candlist_1104.pdf

So all I can say is...wow.

5.  Too bad Hollinger has a monopoly on the Southwest Subs
The Joliet Herald News will probably go Bush...it's owned by the same clowns who own the Sun-Times and lie about their shitty circulation...Hollinger International, owned by the infamous Republican shitheel Lord Black of Crossharbor and I say this as a former reporter for the Herald News...they ended up endorsing Obama because if they endorsed Keyes they knew every sentinent human being in Will County would cancel subscriptions...I must add on a side note, I didn't know anything about my tiny Joliet newspaper's ownership until the Hollinger scandal broke and it turns out Henry Kissinger and Richard Perle sit on advisory boards or something for them...talk about nausea! Ugh!
