1. kicking to say
i have been delivering yard signs for the evanston dems. i was in winnetka, and the signs are at least 5 to 1 kerry. all the old rethugs have jumped ship. about 50-50 kirk v obama, mostly solo kirk signs. a handful of b/c, and zero, repeat zero keyes.
also, there are many dem homes where they had the whole ticket, most rethugs were solos.
even rural wis is about 50-50.

2. Good to hear...

....In northern McHenry and Lake county it's sad.....mostly B/C signs however I have seen K/E signs go up only to be missing within a few days. I can only assume they are being stolen.

Lots and lots of Phil Crane and Alan Keyes signs out here...I'm about to go blind. Yuck! Everytime I see a Crane sign you can feel the desperation pouring off of them....good!

I've tried to get more K/E signs to replace my stolen ones and it's a no go...they've all be sent to Wisc.

Cheers,
Kim :toast:

5. How they'll VOTE may not be reflected in signs this year.
I'm hip deep in GOP land down here in Central Illinois, and I want to go on record as saying that I've had a lot of folks tell me they are not putting out signs either because they are afraid of GOP harassment or because they feel it will just get stolen anyhow...

Something that I've always felt, is that messing with yard signs will probably COST votes. Think about this: If they took YOUR sign out of your yard, wouldn't it make you MORE determined to vote for the candidate?

On a personal note:

My husband's campaign has been lucky thus far--our sign loss has been minimal. Part of that is because we put signs our later this year than usual. Another part of it is because the GOP didn't view him as a threat until just the last week or so--when the endorsements began to hit and the signs went out.

Hang in there!

Laura

6. i knida factor this in
i figure b/c signs are being shoved down peoples throat, where k/e signs are hard to get, you have to pay for them, and you have to have guts to put them up in most places. so, i figure every one of ours is worth about 4 or 5 of theirs.

good luck to your hubby.

7. Wilmette Looked Awesome
My sister & brother in law have their signs prominately seen on Lake Street...along with at least a dozen other houses on the block. While I saw a lot of B/Crap signs west of the Edens, it was a pleasure to drive through the area and see so many friendly signs.

We definitely are working hard out here...the Bean campaign has been running 24 hours an hour these days to canvass and cover this huge district. We're short on just legs to cover all the areas and lots of resources are being used for GOTV in Lake County (Waukegan) that could make a big difference.

I haven't been following the other campaigns and if there's any 11th hour help (checkbook standing by), let me know.

Cheers from the ever-bluer Northwest burbs!

8. I worked in Winnetka all week, I would agree with your estimate.
then I made the mistake of driving through Wayne on the way home. Even on Army Trail there were some Kerry signs though.

12. i have a friend in dundee
she is very political, but not in the electoral sense. she just votes dem, and doesn't worry too much about who. she didn't even know who her congressman was, just knew, some fat thug. but i told her she needed to be happy that she had a great candidate. so she checked him out, and sent him $25. i told her she has to talk to her neighbors.
good candidates make a big difference. and these challengers are great.
i just can't wait. i predict illinois will pick up 3 house seats.
