Adopt a soldier : Thanksgiving dinners but no soldiers |
|
I heard this on CLTV which is part of The Chicago Tribune. I was unable to find the story online for some reason.
Every year for Thanksgiving families/VFW's/and other organizations in the Chicagoland area provide Thanksgiving dinner for soldiers who are far from their own families.
Apparently when the buses arrived to pick up the soldiers they were given a variety of excuses of why the soldiers could not go. Teeth getting pulled, sickness, and even quarrentine. Buses were sent away empty and the food prepared for the soldiers at many places was given to charities in the area instead.
Later a spokesman for the Great Lakes facility said it was a simple mixup.
I just thought this story was strange, and even stranger when I could not find a written article online.

2. Interesting that the article doesn't pursue the issue of .... |

...the recruits shipped to Florida. Are they speeding up basic training now to send more cannon fodder to the Middle East?
Thank goodness these organizations were able to donate the uneaten dinners to soup kitchens. At least someone was able to benefit.
The Navy needs to work on its public relations message a bit.
