Chicago Sun-Times: Feds: Ryan was at center of corruption
http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-ryan05.html

"Year after year, the muck of dirty deals swirled around former Gov. George Ryan.

Now, he's been dunked into the thick of it.

Thanks in large part to the man he once treated like a son, onetime Republican golden boy Scott Fawell.

Federal prosecutors on Tuesday wielded detail after detail in a court filing to portray Ryan as the controlling force behind systemic corruption that benefited himself, his family and his friends, including businessman Larry Warner..."

Interesting article about how they could nail Ryan on countless charges. They include a nice little side bar about some of the benefits Ryan gave to his family. The more light that is shed on this, the more the Illinois Republicans look bad.

6. May Ryan get everything he deserves

-- that's what my mom taught me to say so that karma doesn't fly back. I have a little personal connection to this muck. I got a tip from an SOS employee of how what got Falwell, came down, long before any of it was covered by the media, or even known to anyone but the perps and the scared SOS employees. I called the US Attorney's office, that was our man, Burns (?), at the time. I could never talk to a human but left repeated messages which were never returned. Shortly before or after Burns left the office to run in the '98 democratic gubernatorial primary, I met up with him at a function. I told him what I had been told, and I kid you not, his exact words were "I can't be bothered with that, now." Well, since he had left the office or was about to, maybe so, but he could have hooked me up with his successor, but he couldn't be bothered -- needless to say I didn't support him in that primary. I tried to peddle the story to a few folks in the Chicago media, and while one showed interest, his editor did not. When it all hit the fan, the Tribune called me -- what did I know? I hooked them up with my source who risked her family's livelihood by talking because it meant her/his boss would be interviewed, and then they never ran the story. Had Jessie White not won the office in the meantime, I'm sure she/he would have been gone. Tammy Raynor is not the only heroine in this sordid story, so is my friend. We soothed ourselves by knowing a whole lot of republicans in our area were shaking in their boots because the Tribune had called them for a story.

The point of this is: it is not our side clean -- their side dirty --you have corruption and you have those who could stop it and don't --and it crosses party lines.
