Landfill exposes rift between Blagojevich, father-in-law
By MAURA KELLY LANNAN
The Associated Press
Saturday, Jan. 08 2005

Ordered investigation

Chicago Alderman Richard Mell says his son-in-law is game-playing.

CHICAGO - The father-in-law of Gov. Rod Blagojevich took a simmering family feud public Friday, accusing the governor of shutting down a landfill run by a distant relative in a political power play aimed at burnishing his populist image.

Chicago Alderman Richard Mell, a Democratic political heavyweight credited with helping get his son-in-law elected governor, said Blagojevich was trying to show his political independence and get back at Mell for criticizing him.

"It's purely because of me," said Mell, "because he wants to demonstrate to the world that he is the champion of virtue and that no relative, nobody, can use the governor's office."

1. It's interesting how there's a different angle here
I posted an article about this too and the two are somewhat different. Seeing the two articles is a great reminder why people should try to read all stories from different news organizations. You get different angles when you do that.

I'm surprised people haven't posted on this story. I think it has interesting implications for '06. Especially for the people who want to try and find someone to run against Blago.
