Dispatch: Q-C counselors confirm national reports of anxiety on the rise

"Two empty coffee cups and a water bottle sit on the table. A half-eaten bagel remains wrapped in plastic. Headphones are abandoned for the moment on an inch-thick stack of notecards, and a bookbag lays forgotten. In Theo's cafe at Augustana College, sophomore Laura Anderson stares down her psychology notes an hour before a test.

"I had three classes today," she said, putting her hands on her forehead. "I had no time to go get a meal. If you really want to know, I'm supposed to be in class right now."

Ms. Anderson, an English and German major, is taking four classes this trimester, plays volleyball and is one of several student athletic trainers who travel with the basketball team for games.

"It has been extremely stressful, with classes and work," she said, shaking her head. "I work out for volleyball. I'm writing a paper for English." Ask her how to deal with stress, and Ms. Anderson immediately answers to prioritize time. "It's my own fault. I know it is," she said with a sheepish laugh. "I should have been reading this all along."

That's odd... I feel okay...
