Pantagraph: "Abortion authorties: Change will take time"

SPRINGFIELD -- The start of President Bush's second term is encouraging for anti-abortion forces and dismaying to abortion rights advocates.

But both sides agree on one thing: It will be several years before any major push to outlaw abortion comes to Illinois -- if it does at all.

"Four years is a realistic best case scenario for my group," said Ralph Rivera, director of Illinois Citizens for Life, an anti-abortion group that was buoyed by Bush's re-election and the addition of four more GOP members to the U.S. Senate in November.

Similarly, a representative of Illinois Planned Parenthood Council, which favors abortion rights, said little will change in Illinois under its current Democratic leadership."

2. Pro-life pandering in Illinois is a non-starter.
Look at our last 3 GOP governors, Jim Thompson, Jim Edgar, and George Ryan, all pro-choice.

Our last pro-life statewide candidate, Alan Keyes, enough said.

3. Welcome to the Illinois DU Forum!
Your user name seems familiar, but I haven't seen you sign in on the county by county roll call. I didn't realize all three GOP governors were pro-choice. Please continue to post here often!

4. The Supreme Court Will Ban It Nationwide
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 06:55 PM by AndyTiedye
once Boosh** is done packing it with wingnuts.
Not just overturning Roe v Wade and Griswold v Ct,
but a nationwide ban of abortion and the most
effective forms of birth control, legislated from the bench.

Just because you live in a blue state doens't mean that
your reproductive rights are safe.

5. George Carlin:
"Have you ever noticed that women who are against abortion are women you really wouldn't want to fuck in the first place?"
