State Journal Register: Governor a causualty of flap over WWII memorial...
http://www.sj-r.com/Sections/News/Stories/45916.asp

"At the 2003 Illinois State Fair, Gov. Rod Blagojevich announced the release of the final $750,000 in state grant funds to build the Illinois World War II Veterans Memorial at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
"We can't forget the noble sacrifices made by thousands of Illinoisans during the second world war," the governor was quoted as saying. The announcement was made at a luncheon honoring Illinois veterans.

The monument, which features two black granite walls etched with the names of battles and a concrete globe of the world, was dedicated Dec. 4.

But, according to John Carrigan, president of the private memorial committee that oversaw the construction of the monument, the state has yet to pay more than $465,000 of that $1.35 million committed 17 months ago."
