"As the filing deadline for the April 5 election passed Tuesday, a series of punchy mayoral contests shaped up in the northwest suburbs.

The main event will take place in Barrington, where Marshall Reagle is seeking a second term after four years of near constant warfare with the Village Board. He says state law gives him more power than the trustees have been willing to grant, and has tried to assert his authority through vetoes, executive orders and lawsuits.

"If I'm re-elected, the will actually respect the office. It won't be considered a fluke," said Reagle, who won his first election by 19 votes.

One of his opponents will be Karen Darch, a trustee who has been Reagle's chief foil. She said her first priority as village president would be to erase the town's reputation for governmental bickering."

Suburban people: give us a run down of the politics of the people running for mayor in your town.
