Any Word on AAR Coming Back To the Chicago Area? - I Have An Idea......
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 02:12 PM by global1
I live in a near western suburb of Chicago. I have Comcast Digital Cable. I noticed I have Radio Disney on my list of stations. Why can't AAR broadcast on digital cable if they can't get a bonified radio station. This would give them a chance to develop an audience and perhaps give them leverage ultimately for a radio station.

I know that they want to take advantage of the many people that would listen in their car - but a digital cable station broadcast would give people like me an alternative to listening to cable news all day. I could switch from MSNBC or CNN to AAR.

AAR could even sell ad space on the digital cable station to pay for it.

How do we get this idea to the AAR folk?

An Afterthought!!!!

If this works in the Chicago Area - AAR could employ this strategy all around the country.

2. You need to work on the cable company.
It would mean more to AAR if Comcast asked than if you did, I believe.

4. Hoping for Charter
I have digital radio thru Charter, and also have hoped they might pick up Air America. I'm not very optimistic as they only carry music stations.

6. Randi hinted again today
Don't know if anyone else caught it (paraphrasing here) "To everyone who was with us at the very beginning, you are in for a big surprise Feb. 2nd."

I am not positive about the date or the exact wording except for " everyone." She emphasized that and repeated it.

7. keep an eye on WRLL 1690
The roumored station for AAR to come back to chicago on is WRLL 1690 AM. I was listening to them on my way home from work to see if they were making any format change announcemenets and i could of swore the accidently played Mike Malloy briefly (engineers messing around) however it could of been the Detroit station at 1310 AM bleeding though (AM is weird in the middle of the night) so don't shoot me if it isn't 1690

9. ohh i know its horrible
its just as bad as WNDT was. I hope its not on WRLL, because then the broadcast will be controlled by Clear Channel. I hope AAR leased a station on thier own. They better get it soon Radio Sweeps starts soon.

12. It's Been Quiet Lately In The Rumormill
Around the election, "insiders" kept saying Cheap Channel...whose been setting up Progressive Talk station in other markets...would do the same with 1690 here in Chicago. The story was that this station had contracts with Larry Lujack and several others and the company was waiting for those to play out sometime early this year and then the switch would be made. I haven't heard anything recently about it.

The problem with Chicago is the lack of really good AM signals that cover the areas Air America could do well with.

I've been discussing with several other DUers...or attempting...to implement some ideas in developing a stronger and louder Progressive network. Cheap Channel can't be our "savior" and AAR does a good job on a national level, but we need local Progressive talk to really reach people. There are a lot of good talk hosts as well who either are out of the business or stifled in the world of hate radio.

Over the past two years I've tried to set up dialogues with others...especially radio people...here on DU about using our talents, connections and experience in either assisting AAR or others and have had little positive response.

For now, I suggest catching Randi from WSAI from Cincinatti on 1530AM. It's a kick-ass AM signal directed right at Chicago at night and I have little problem hearing it. It's a breath of fresh air compared to WLS (who I refuse to listen to).

The only caveat is during the day 1530 is a small station owned by a real "work", Joe Gentile...the "Baron of Barrington". He's a 70'ish Italian Catholic who came up from nothing and now knows it all. His morning show is hilarious for the goofy stuff this old fool will spew.

Cheers.

13. Welcome to DU Illinois Forum
Pardon me if you have been here before, I see that you have a lot of posts, but I don't believe we have you down on the Roll Call or County by County threads. I'm glad you found/return to us with so many posts. It's pretty active here and you get more of a sense of a community feel. We get about 50-75 posts in here a day. It's not too much and not too little either. Thanks for stopping by, we look forward to seeing you more in the future!

14. I Guess I'm An Oldtimer
Been a while since I've posted in here, my usual DU "hang" is the GD forum, but I check in here and post if there's something I can contribute.

I had taken a "DU Vacation" posting vacation after the election and have seen some of the changes around here. I'm in the NW burbs...Pleasant Valley Sunday...from a family of lifelong loyal Democrats...working to rid the suburbs of the scourge of Repugnicanism.

Thanks for your welcome and I'll be reading.

Cheers!
