A new radio station started yesterday, 99.9 FM. They're kicking off with 9,999 songs in a row with no commercials or dj's, they supposedly have no "format" in the sense that they'll play anything from Motown to Moodies to Green Day, and I suspect they're targeting the Loop and Drive. The reason for this plug is because: The station is owned by Fred Eychaner (Sp), the same guy who owns the Reader. He is one of the largest contributors to Democrats in the city and state, and perhaps our listener ship is a way to pay him back. Of course if the music doesn't float your boat, don't listen. But if all things are equal...

It's Fred EYCHANER, and you will NOT believe his contributions to Democrats nationwide, PLUS $7,300,000 in total soft money! See for yourselves: http://herndon1.sdrdc.com/cgi-bin/qind/(If that link doesn't work, go here and put in his name. This man is a hero!): http://herndon1.sdrdc.com/fecimg/norindsea.html

That was a great station back in the 80's. Very broad, and progressive playlist for a long time.
The transmitter is south of Peotone on I-57. It's very powerful and carries a long way. I used to listen to it all the way to corporate headquarters, and back and forth to the uni i was teaching classes at back then.
Both were a good 65 miles from the transmitter. So, it should be a pretty good broadcast to anywhere in the Chicago area. The Professor

6. Been listening since the beginning(3 weeks?). |

Neat idea, except when they do a full day of country. :) Wife and I make sure to check in at least once a day after 8:00 am.

Hi,
I tried to listen but I can't get it in Northern McHenry county. I'll have to try when I'm closer in.
Cheers, Kim

8. Can't get it in Arlington Heights |

I guess if it's all the way in Peotone, there's a good reason I only get static. Ah, well - I guess I'll have to settle for Q101 and The Drive (neither of which are owned by ClearChannel, afaik).
