I am so proud of having Harkin as my senator. He voted no today for Condi as SOS. He also has done many things that makes me proud of him. He has stood up for many things and is very intelligent and speaks for me on almost everything. Why does he not get the attention that other senators get around here? Any thoughts?

Just trying that out. Looks pretty good.
Heard him interviewed on Iowa Public Radio. He just does not have that "Senator Blowhard" sound that most senators have. He sounds like he's trying to give a straight answer to a question instead of saying whatever will be most inoffensive to the most people. Soft-spoken, straight-shooter.

Senator Harkin not only gives liberal Iowans a good name, he gives humanity a good name. I think the reason he doesn't get the attention that others get is because he is an Iowa Senator, and he actually tries to work with Grassley when it is clearly beneficial to the people of our great state. In 1996 the plant I had worked in for 19 years pulled up stakes and went to Mexico. There was schooling available to me because of that, and that free schooling was made possible in part by Senator Harkin. He has my undying gratitude for that alone. So you see, he does care about his constituents. As far as I am concerned, he can be a U.S. Senator from Iowa as long as he wants.

I voted for him in 72 (when he lost....his wife Ruth won; she became the first female county atty in IA)....and voted for him every election until I had to move in 89
in OK I have no representation.....Harkin is my senator
in 92, Harkin was one of the many running in the democratic presidential primaries; he dropped out after NH, I think......I remember every time the national media mentioned him it was always 'Sen Harkin, the spokesman for unions'

8. Senator Harkin is a true statesman... |
|
I am so glad we have a true progressive in the Senate.
Senator Harkin makes me proud to be an Iowan.
I love that he has stood up to Bush and Cheney. It's awesome that someone had the nerve to call a spade a spade, and use the word, "Chickenhawk" regarding Cheney.
Thanks for the reminder to call his offices about the Condi vote. Since we're in the minority at the moment--with a very headstrong president who believes he has a "mandate", it's important that we support people like Harkin who stand against Bush.
Harkin is a hero and he is truly a man of the people.

He stood up and spoke about the voting irregularities. Then he voted no on Condiliar. And he voted no on Torturo Gonzalez for AG. He is a true Democrat and other Dems should follow his lead.
