One of the biggest Congressional races in the U.S. is right here in Iowa |
|
As you all know by now, Nussle, the "representative" of the First District of Iowa is running for Governor of this great state. Therefore, his seat will be vacant and the race for it is going to be wide open. The RNC has already stated that they are willing to spend large amounts of time and money to keep this seat. Mike Whalen, Founder and CEO of Heart of America Restaurants will announce his candidacy for the seat on Monday, June 6. He has been helping bush destroy, er, overhaul the Social Security system. He will likely have the big bad rnc backing him. The Democrats have Gluba, who lost last time to Nussle, and a guy whose name I can't remember at this time; an attorney from Cedar Falls or Waterloo, who have already stated their intentions to run. No matter who the Democratic nominee is, we must break our butts to see that he or she gets elected. This seat would be a great gain for the Dems. So please, no pissing matches about this guy or that guy should have gotten the nomination. Let's just support the nominee, whoever that may be. On a side note, about Whalen and HoA restaurants, the food and service are among the best you will ever find in this region, if not America, but I am still refusing to patronize his chain because of his obvious republicanism(is that a word?).

The Democrat in the lead in terms of money at this point in the First Congressional District primary is Bruce Braley. You can check out his website at .
The First District is going Democrat in 2006 ... let's make it one of many in Iowa.

I'm getting a bit forgetful in my old age I think. I will indeed check out his website. Whether he gets the nomination, or Gluba, or someone else, we need to bust our tails to insure that the Democrat gets elected.

3. My Waterloo Days Parade was Friday, June 3rd |
|
In attendance was Bruce Braley and Bill Gluba for the Democrats (no sign of Rick Dickinson of Dubuque) and Bill Dix and Mike Whalen for the republicans (no sign of Brian Kennedy). Moneywise Dix is the leader for the Republicans until the next quarterly reporting, then we'll see how much Whalen is willing to spend of his own money for this race.
A good thing for all of us to know is that each of these men are farther to the right than Nussle ever professed to be (he may vote far right conservative - but he always ran as a moderate). Dix has a voting record that is far right, Kennedy has a public record of his conservative leanings (just look at his website and his defense of DeLay) and Whalen has already waded into the Social Security FUBAR that the Administration is trying to shove down our throats - thanks for reminding us Bluzmann.
It doesn't matter who their nominee is - he will be too far right-wing for this district. And Bluzmann, you are correct, it doesn't matter who our nominee is. We gotta take back this seat!

Rick Dickinson is the Democrat from Dubuque. He's a pretty impressive candidate with a good looking resume. Checkout his website at: http://www.rickdickinson.org/
