Ashcroft invades Iowa (DM Register)
Ashcroft asks Iowa voters to use values

Between handshakes and ice cream, John Ashcroft said Wednesday that Iowans must use morals and values as decisive factors in determining the next GOP presidential candidate, but he made it clear that he will not be vying for the nomination.

"I want to encourage the Iowa Republican Party to have a vital debate in the next presidential election," Ashcroft said. "We need a strong advocate in a president who is dedicated to fighting terror (and to) limited government and believes in the values of families."

<snip>

Ashcroft made clear his continued support of the Patriot Act despite a House-approved measure that would prohibit officials from searching library records without a warrant.

"It's important to all of America that the Patriot Act is at the center of keeping terror off stride in the U.S.," Ashcroft said. Instances of terror have decreased in the United States, he said.

<snip>

Ashcroft said a socially conservative direction will result in the best Republican candidate for the White House in 2008, selected in part by Iowa's early caucuses.

2. I hate Aschcroft
If Aschcroft would run that would just add to the list of vile Rethug candidates that includes Newt and Frist. :puke:

I think it would be a small win if a candidate like McCain or Guilliani would win the Republican primary. That would show that the Republicans are sick of the vast far Rightwingnuts that have hijacked the government. However, those 2 might be harder to beat in a general election.

3. I hate to say I hate anyone...
But with this disgusting swine, I think it gets awfully close to hate. He is an extremist freak theocrat to the highest degree. He doesn't give a damn about the Constitution, and his 1st move as president would probably be to ban all non-Christian religions.

4. It's not like Iowa became this FAR RIGHT state just because Kerry lost
here - we still have a Democrat Governor & Lt. Gov, Sec of State, AG, Treasurer, Sec. of Ag and a 50/50 split senate.

He comes in a gives this "Iowa LOVES Conservatives" speech. Please :eyes:

5. Unfortunately...
If you stay on the western side of the state you could probably see that point of view...some of those towns and their voting records over there have been pretty vile as of late!

Having people like Ashcroft visit our state and spew "conservative" crap only toughens our resolve to change the next elections results, so more power to him.

As a side note, how irritating for them to use "conservative" to describe anything they do. There is nothing conservative about running up debt and spending...the only thing conservative about them are the budgets they use to operate our basic needs (ie. schools).
