Just received this from the Dickinson campaign...WOW!
The Rick Report vol. 1
Greetings from Iowa's First District
Dickinson Campaign Sets New Fundraising Record!

Outstanding!

That's the best word I know to describe the first 100 days of our campaign to represent the people of eastern Iowa in the U.S. Congress.

A Sensational Start!

I am happy to report that we've raised a whopping $184,000 in just our first 100 days into this race.

Our total of $166,700 over the last 90 days marks the highest amount raised in individual contributions over one quarter by any congressional candidate in the history of Iowa's First District this far out from a primary election.

I am Inspired.

Almost 500 individuals have generously contributed to our campaign. Best of all, seven out of every ten donations have come from First District voters and the remainder comes from Iowans and folks with strong Iowa ties.

I am humbled, filled with gratitude and inspired by the support and confidence of so many people.

If you've joined our team and contributed to our campaign...

Thank You!

Because of your support, we are well on our way towards victory.

2. He's running as a Democrat and served in the Iowa House as a Dem
but I can't find any political activity in the last decade (since he joined the Greater Dubuque Development Corporation)

3. Any news on who made the donations?
I know that there was someone from the Dickinson campaign complaining that Bruce Braley's big first quarter of fundraising had money from trial lawyers (heavan forbid) - I think Bruce will soon be releasing his second quarter of fundraising as opposed to Dickinson's first reporting. Will Dickinson have trial lawyer money or will he be receiving money from chamber of commerce types who have recently been anti-worker, anti-union? I will give him the benefit of the doubt that his donations are small donations from Democratic party activists. But, I am anxious to see ...

4. So much negativity...
Nice post Debi, but why is there so much complaining and negativity here? It's obvious that there is going to be a race and what's important is the discussion of the issues and who's best qualified to represent Democrats as the nominee. No doubt...it should be an interesting and fun campaign.

If you want to learn more about these guys and there qualifications checkout their websites.

5. Whatever Cooper....whoever you are
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 10:35 AM by Debi
I was just stating the facts....

I would like to know that the person who possibly will be my representative in congress is not a DINO or in fact a republican in Democrat clothing...a lot can happen in ten years working with chamber of commerce types...I do have a right to know that Mr. Dickinson is still a Democrat and espouses the Democratic philosophy and promotes the Democratic platform created by the State Convention.

Is that to much to ask of our candidates?

Edited to add:
P.S. Coop, look above, that wasn't even my post. Although the poster does pose a good question. This is a Democratic primary, hopefully Democrats are promoting our Democratic candidates.

7. Debi, I live in Dubuque
and he seems very sincere. I lean toward Braley myself, but I could work for Dickinson. He doesn't come across as a DINO, a breed I personally will not deal with. I am pretty much an old line liberal and Braley seems to punch my buttons a little better is all.

8. I wish Dickinson would take some time
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 10:54 AM by Debi
out of running along the banks of the Mississippi to come to Black Hawk County for longer than it takes to walk in a parade. I'd like to speak to him (I've had the opportunity to shake his hand when my husband introduced us, but have not heard his stump speech nor been able to ask him questions).

I hope I get the chance.

I don't like to make the decision to support a candidate before hearing their opponents ideas and learning their opponents positions on issues (and their story of why they want to be my representative). That is why I'm waiting to hear from Dickinson....but it could be that he doesn't want support outside of Clayton, Dubuque, Jackson and Scott counties.

Weird.

++++++++++++

Thanks for the response, Dubuque is a great County...Pat Murphy, Denise Dolan, Pat Lynch and Donna Smith (to name a few) are great Democrats and great activists. Plus Dubuque itself is gorgeous (I still can't wait to stay in the Grand Harbour and play at the water park!) You're very lucky to live there.

6. We'll find out on July 15th.
And see who the republicans are supporting as well.

I see where Dix and Kennedy have hinted at how much they've raised, will be interested in seeing how much Whalen has raised or how much of his own $$ he'll be using.

Also, got an email from Gluba about what's been going on since January, but it did not include any fund raising info.

I guess we just sit for the next couple of days to see who the $$ leader is.
