Dix praised the tax cuts put in place by President George W. Bush.
"Unless Congress and President Bush act to make them permanent, your taxes will go up again," Dix said. "As your Congressman I will let you know that I will vote to make these tax cuts permanent."

He shared a humorous conversation between his daughter, Elizabeth, 4, and son Will, 5. Elizabeth caught part of a discussion about taxes and wondered what they were. Dix said Will responded with tears that he and his dad had talked about it. They needed that money they spent on taxes to buy toys.

Dix also emphasized national security issues, particularly tightening America's borders."We can be proud that four years have passed without another attack on our soil," Dix said. "For that reason, I am standing with President Bush on his decision to take the war to the terrorists. If our borders are not secure, if we fear terrorists in our streets, then we as Americans are not truly free."

Dix pledged to work on health care issues. He said the nation needs to find a way to curb health care costs, and limit the role of health maintenance organizations in making medical decisions.

Dix cited his approval ratings from the Iowa Right to Life Committee, National Rifle Association and National Federation of Independent Businesses.

2. All three republicans running for this seat are trying to out-rw the other
I hope they succeed. This should be a Democratic seat anyway.

3. I have a feeling that our district will go Democrat this time around
Nussle had a pile of money and Dix, quite frankly, probably won't even get out of the republican primaries. I think Whalen is the odds on favorite to take the repub nomination and as far as the Dems, all three candidates are good candidates and a lot of people around here have had enough of the rw crapola. Gluba has name recognition, Braley seems to have some pretty good ideas, and Dickinson is from a solid blue city and will have that area behind him, most likely. Whalen, on the other hand, knows how to run a business, but is on record as saying that SS needs to be overhauled. I'm going to try and find a link for that, so be patient. But anyway, I have a good feeling about this race.

4. Just go to whalen's web site to get all of his garbage
http://www.mikewhalen.com/

I especially like his ideas on tort reform :sarcasm:

I only slightly disagree with you on who the republican candidate will be. Dix is working the legislators and primary voters whereas Whalen and Kennedy are working the general election crowd. Dix (right now) is right in with the other two when it comes to money raised (of course we'll have to wait until Oct. 15 to see if he can keep up the momentum). I see Dix coming out as the republican nominee.

Doesn't really matter, except with Dix we have a voting record to run against.

:hi:

6. I taunted Whalen when he was in our county fair parade.
I am so tired of all those reactionary union busters I called out "Long live the Unions" and a few other phrases. I have a penetrating voice too. He looked briefly startled. I never used to jeer GOP candidates but since it is about my one outlet to reach them I feel as though I am making my opinion known. I also taunted Latham up in Decorah during the Nordic Fest parade. I said "Stop the War!" among other things.

8. Whalen's gotten the deer in the headlights look more times than not
I don't think he's cut out for running for office - we'll see how he does in the debates against actual politicians.

That cutting taxes over there (=>) leads to higher prices and less services over here (<=). Of course if you are rich it doesn't matter. I'll bet he can't wait for thos $25,000 checks to come in from the moneyed boys! "Hey, Iowans for Tax Relief, I'll be your lapdog <<whimper, whimper>>"

7. They needed that money to buy toys?!?!
I really want to smack that dad... really, really bad.

Good parents take their children to homeless shelters and explain that they are "fortunate" because they can and do help others. Good parents take their children to the local library, the fire station, the police department and even the public schools and speak with pride about how their tax dollars are helping the entire community.

I'm not sure what type of parent tells their children they can't afford toys because they pay taxes.

Did I already say that I really want to smack that parent?!

9. It' the evil Democrats that take your money through taxes and then
give it to lazy poor people who refuse to get jobs so that they can buy their kids toys with your hard earned money while you get NOTHING!!!! Now go to bed without any supper while the Democrats eat cake!

What a lovely bedtime story from Daddy.
