Vilsack suggests a strategy for Iraq

Has our beloved leader in Iowa gone of the deep end or what??

Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack on Friday offered a new strategy for Iraq, proposing U.S. forces set up heavily guarded zones around key areas and wait for insurgents to "come to us" instead of pursuing them.

Vilsack told reporters at a Democratic Leadership Council forum here that such zones would allow Iraqis to focus on establishing a new society that they eventually would be confident protecting themselves.

"They will have something to protect," said Vilsack, chairman of the organization who is weighing a campaign for president in 2008. "They will have something they care about, something they are willing to give their life to. I don't think that's the case today.

"If we used that fortress mentality and created a sense of security and security zones, and wait for the insurgents to come to us and don't go after them . . . and protect the people inside that zone, allow them to feel more comfortable and more confident and allow them to get an economy going . . . then at that point Iraqis are going to be more willing to assume the front lines of that fortress."

Baghdad, there I said it, now I sound like a Beatnik. Perhaps our Governor would like to turn the entire state into a green zone. Build a Berlin style wall around Iowa and declare the inhabitants slave prisoners to the prison/security industry. While our children and fellow citizens die in Iraq in an illegal and immoral war launched on a flotilla of lies Governor Vilsack is cooking up ways to make it work. Like he’s some kind of military general or something. Go to hell Vilsack!

Tom why don’t you start speaking out about how folks in Iowa have to give up their civil rights under the patriot act because we are such a goddamn threat to national security?

I will never vote for Vilsack as long as he sits on the DLC. This is more hawkish posturing from the DLC and does NOTHING to address the real terror of **.

That’s right Tom ignore 800 years of history and embark on another futile attempt at crusade in Islamic nations for the sole purpose of stealing their natural resources for private gain. Use our children as cannon fodder and when it looks like that’s an idiotic plan say something about how we should have fortresses in Iraq to insure decades of senseless death protecting corporate interest.

We should not build permanent fortresses in Iraq that’s just a dead wrong brain dead idea. Maybe we could help Tom Vilsack build a wall around his ivory tower……out of kindling. I hope Gov. Vilsack realizes the error of his ways so that I can vote for him but as it is I cannot.

2. I'm through with Vilsack

I sent him a lengthy letter about the happenings at the DLC. He didn't even boo back. So be it. I'm quite sure he and the DLC need me more than I need them.
