Utilities Board Asks Iowans To Conserve
Yes its getting serious folks. Supply and demand are out in force in Iowa!! Get ready for some whopping heating bills this winter..

State regulators are asking Iowans to cool it this winter, and hopefully, save money.

snip..

Board member Diane Munns said prices are rising because supply is not keeping up with demand. In the short term, the best way to rebalance that equation is to cut demand.

1. I'm all ready bracing for sky-high bills...
I'm prepared to keep the heat down, wear heavy sweaters and use blankets while we're on the couch.

I love going to sleep under tons of blankets, when it's a bit chilly. However, my husband hates that and I have to balance all of this with the fact that my kids have to be comfortable (ages 4,5).

I can't freeze my family out. However, the heat is being set lower this year, and will definitely be turned down in the evening.

We have only had the heat on one day, so far.

I'm really wondering how much these bills will be increasing.

Are they supposed to double?

With gas prices higher and heating bills escalating, you wonder how some will make it.

3. I was sitting on the couch last night under two blankets and complained
to my poor husband about it still being cold. He looked at the thermostat and said, "could it be because you have the heat set at 60 degrees Dear?" Hey, it wasn't running!

5. We've been at 60 degrees for the last 2 years.
Gets plenty cold. Thank goodness winters have been mild. This year we got a corn burner and a new ceiling fan to circulate heat from that and the wood burner.
What I hate almost as much as the outrageous prices is the fact that someone can put the screws to me so badly. I don't like being owned by anyone.
How will you feel next spring if you here that there is a glut of natural gas and no storage and prices drop like a rock? Remember the flu vaccine shortage last year? Anytime the W admin sends out warnings and companies echo it, I get very very distrustful.
