Nussle and his quest to keep women from making their own choices
Nussle: Personal reason behind abortion consent stance
October 30, 2005

Republican gubernatorial candidate Jim Nussle said Saturday his mother's decision as a pregnant teenager to carry him to term is the main reason behind his proposal to require young women in Iowa to get parental consent before receiving an abortion.

"She, I'm sure, had many tearful moments with her parents, and prayer and everything else you can imagine," the Manchester congressman said of his mother in an interview with the Des Moines Sunday Register. "I certainly thank God she made the decision she made. She chose me."

<snip>

"That's certainly why I'm pro-life, but it's also why I think these decisions are so profound and in need of good information, counsel and the benefit of a supportive parent," he told the Register. "You could say I'm living proof of that."

Nussle said he would exempt victims of rape and incest. The existing law requires parental notification, which he said is insufficient because it allows teenagers to decide before involving an adult.

1. Jesus these people make me sick. What is Nussle's whole story?
I've heard he dumped his wife and kids for a trophy wife. Now the story comes out that he was a bastard child? Or was there a forced marriage? I am just curious. I get the feeling that this story is probably about a tenth true and the rest is just BS to play to the so-called christers. That is, like most republicans he lies where it'll do him good.
And what's this line from V-plaats at the end of thge story - "get out of our state and leave our children alone". Don't these idiots know that porn is often a relief valve that keeps crimes from happening?
BTW, Mr. Nussle, one if the reasons I am in favor of available reproductive care for women: When I was in college a young female acquaintance did herself in with a coathanger trying to self abort. A needless death of a fine young woman.

2. Get out of our state and leave our children alone
I wonder how many of your young college educated kids would "get out of our state" if we elect some right winger jerk off who tries to take us all back to his view of the 1950's? No matter how much money will give away to the big welfare queen (wells fargo) we won't have the workforce to fill the jobs made. Taxing porn will go over real well with the younger generation, christian or not.

Plus, was Vander Putz trying to equate all pornography to child porn? I think he was ... I am sure that he knows the difference between consenting adults and children who are the victims of crime.

3. I am no sexual deviant...
but I am no prude either. I for one wouldn't be a big fan of letting anyone of VanderPutz's standards decide what is and what is not pornography, let alone having them tax it.

Iowa has a bad enough image (a la boring Puritan farmland) with the youth of this country, we don't need to break out the scarlet letters and witch hunts.

4. I don't know his 'whole story' but you got the dumping his family for
a trophy wife correct. A more politically climbing and connected trophy wife who probably helped him in D.C. more than the woman living in Iowa raising his children.

He's a piece of shit, there's just no better way to describe him. I don't buy the load of crap he's trying to sell us now. Why would a child conceived of consensual sex be any more loved or wanted then a child conceived of non-consensual sex if the young woman was under the age of 18 and not desirous of having and raising a baby? If his policies are enacted doesn't he think we'll see a raise of false rape reports or, God forbid, stories of incest? Is he saying in the article that he's comfortable with abortion as long as the young woman who got pregnant didn't have any funny getting there?

He probably believes (now) that we should toughen divorce laws in Iowa. :eyes:

Hey, why is his divorce file sealed? What's in there that he doesn't want Iowans to know about?

13. You bring an interesting point up in your post.
If young females can only get an abortion in two ways:

if they notify their parents
OR
if they claim rape or incest

Will this cause a rise in false accusations?

11. That is uncalled for
While I'm sure there are others which share your point of view, most have enough tact to keep it to themselves. To call for the death of *anyone* is entirely inappropriate, unethical and a hinderance to the real conversations being attempted in this forum.

9. I just realized that if Nussle is over 32 his mother had no choice
So is he implying that she had access to abortion when it was illegal, like W did for his girlfriend? Which means that if Nussle gets his way, we can go back to only selected citizens having access to safe choice. Now that is the true republican way.
I personally find it hard to believe that the right really believes what they espouse.

10. LTTE I'd like to write
Dear Mr. Nussle-
What a coincidence! Your mother's decision as a pregnant teenager to carry you to term is the main reason I've decided to have an abortion immediately! If I don't, I run the risk of giving birth to someone who could potentially grow up to be a right-wing f*cktard who wants to meddle in the private lives of other people, force women to breed, and then cut all funding to help actual human beings once they're born.
Sincerely,
CS
