Maybe the IA democratic party could arrange this; at least publicize Norwegian ties at the Story City Scandinavian Days celebration. There're always polical cars in the Sat parade in election years.

And what about the Winterset Covered Bridge Festival in Oct?? I remember Harkin walking in a parade there one year. (Maybe 72 when he ran for the House and lost or 74 when he ran again and won.)

1. The Nordic Festival in Decorah

is held sometime during the summer. Mason City has plenty of Scandahoovians as well, and a festival each year comemorating the musical, "The Music Man" each year in late May/early June. I know there are politicians who march in that parade, and seem to remember Harkin being there. This would be a nice tie-in with Mom, apple pie and middle America.
