Another Anti-Iowa thread....
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2361508&mesg_id=2361550

Same guy that bashed Harkin.

This time he wonders why Iowa gets to "pick our candidates"

The whole thread is riddled with dummies.

1. Blame Iowa, blame John Kerry ,blame Howard Dean, blame SETH
Get over it and get one with it. We need to win in 2006 and prepare for 2008.

4. They're just jealous
Not everyone can live in Iowa, and it's hard on those of us who wish we could. I deal with it by plotting my escape back across the Big Muddy! Others deal with it by attacking. I think my way is healthier. :*

5. I just wish we had the power that others assume we did!
Has anyone looked at Iowa lately? Our schools are no longer #1 - Our teachers wages are nowhere near #1 - our federal funding (pork) is nothing like Alaska (Thanks, Grassley, Nussle, Leach, King and sometimes even Boswell), not everyone here is employed and/or insured, Our college tuition keeps going up and up and UP. I mean come on!! If we were so damn in control of Washington wouldn't we be rolling in it? Sheesh :eyes:

6. No longer #1
You know, I have been thinking about that lately. I remember when I was in grade school, and I think even in middle school...Iowa was always #1 when it came to education. What the heck happened?

I gotta say, in my early 20's (especially with no kids) I didn't pay much attention to education or funding for education..but now that I am getting older and my peers have children (or maybe its just me growing up!?) I feel like we got robbed somehow.

I used to think my children would learn in great schools, but now I am not so sure!

7. I can't complain about the Cedar Falls School District,
we have been very well taken care of (and our son is special needs and receives the services of AEA 267 as well). But I think our problem lies in the inability to keep the 'best and the brightest' here in Iowa. Some people want low taxes (or no taxes) entertainment that they don't have to pay for (or pay taxes to have museums/auditoriums/stadiums built)jobs that provide them with security (did you see where Tyson is shutting two more plants down?). Where are we headed?

Hey, what is your avatar?

8. Avatar
I just changed it...getting bored with the old one.

Its the Gadsden flag...the "don't tread on me" flag. Has its historical roots in the revolutionary period. The rattlesnake (distinctly American) is not one to provoke attacks but will fight to the death if necessary. Snakes (especially their eyes) have long been a sign of vigilance since they don't have eyelids. It has 13 rattles to represent the 13 colonies. And so on and so forth...pretty intersting history.

and

I have always liked the flag, and given the current atmosphere of our govt I thought the message was fitting. You can see it closer up if you go view my profile.

10. LOL!
No, I am just a history geek and I needed a change of pace from my former avatar.

I will probably keep it for a while and then ditch it.

11. When I was growing up in Davenport
we had good schools, even though they were crowded (Adams School--my grade school--added on three times while I was there). I clearly got a good education, as demonstrated by my success in college and grad school. We had other great resources, too...live theater at the RKO Orpheum (I saw Mary Martin as Pete Pan when I was 5!), good summer programs at the public parks, the city museum and art gallery (our mom took us EVERY time there was a Grant Wood exhibit!!).

Maybe it was clout in Washington that we lost, but it seems something has happened. Instead of providing the good education and cultural programs, based in neighborhoods and relevant to the community that we had, they're looking for pork to build a rain forest.

:wtf:

12. Welcome to DU, vegpet and to the Iowa Forum
I agree, I think we lost our focus. I also think that my generation (graduated in the '80s) and the next generation ('90s) have different ideas of what's important (more me, me, me and less community). That needs to be changed in order to change Washington. :hi: Glad you're here!

3. Yes, it's all Iowa's fault....
Tah me, if they listened a little closer to Iowa, period, we'd be much better off. Tah me.
