Iowa Absentee Ballot Requests Keep Climbing
<http://www.theiowachannel.com/politics/3834252/detail.html>

As of Monday, the Iowa Secretary of State's office said 360,928 absentee ballots had been requested.

Of the 90 counties that supplied return figures, more than 199,963 of the ballots have been turned in.

In the Sunday Register it was reported that 70% of these absentee ballots are Democrats. There may be a few down ticket, unexpected pickups in Iowa. Maybe a congressional seat or two? I could see the absentee ballots catching up to Leach or Nussle.

1. Do you believe you'll get an honest count?

3. This is IOWA for crying out loud.
Of course we'll get an honest count. Except for maybe Scott county.(Too close to Ill. and beside, the count will go our way.)

6. Hey now wait a minute!
I live in Scott County and we are good honest people here. We try and keep out the Illinois riff raff out(just kidding folks!). And besides that, I voted a couple of weeks ago and I trust these people. Hell, one of my favorite people is a (shudder) republican. And a former County Supervisor to boot. He'd kick someone's rear end if he found out about anyone cheating.

2. This Iowan voted absentee for the first time.
Leach was my old rep. here in Davenport. Not a bad man but still a GOPer first. Cedar Rapids and Iowa City could very well take him out this year. Nussle is a complete asswipe. I'd love to see him go down. Lots of Bill Gluba signs here in his hometown, maybe Bill can pull it out, lets hope.

4. Gluba support isn't as heavy here in Black Hawk
But I agree with the 'down the ticket' effect. I think Nussle's negatives are great enough for people to fill in the oval next to the D on the form! Nussle needs to go down NOW so he's in sorry shape for the Governors race in 2006

5. If it was just Iowa City Leach would be a goner
But CR is bigger, and lot's of fundie churches there. There are Democrats that will vote for Leach just because he's been in for so long, and is a familiar name. Not me though, my ballot is in, and voted all Dem as always.

7. This transplant to Iowa voted absentee for the first time too.
It's also the first time I ever voted a straight ticket. No bullshit or messin' around this year for me. If you are not a Democrat then you will not and did not get any votes from me. My 2 sons are also voting for the first time in their lives as their lives DO depend on it. :kick: They know what to do ;-)

We live in the NW part of the state and Repukelican steve king is our rep. He's cut from the same vile cloth as the bush administration. And it's long over due time for chuckie grassley to go down the road too :puke:

Well......Here's wishin' ya luck on your local races :hi:

8. I'm sorry you live in NW Iowa
I had to visit Orange City over the summer. Way too right-wing for me. Couldn't wait to get back to Johnson County. My ballot is in and I voted straight ticket as well.

9. Yeah this NWestern corner is terribly pukey.
I couldn't handle living in Orange City. Sioux County is well known rebuttlickin territory. The over powering stench is the first clue you're getting close.
They'd probably burn us at the stake anyway if we lived in Orange City. My son (where he gets his rebellious spirit, gee I haven't got a clue:evilgrin: ), he says he'd like to live in Orange City for one summer because he would only mow the lawn on Sundays and let them try and cite or arrest him for not obeying "their" religious beliefs. They have a tizzy fit in that town if anyone does any kind of 'work' on Sunday :eyes:

On a slightly more positive note, the small town we live in had two new Democratic families move in within the past year. Now we have a total of 3 families of Dem's living here. WooHoo
I don't feel quite so alone anymore :pals:

10. NW IA here too...originally anyway...
I hate Steve King with every ounce of my being. I was back home this past weekend and drove through Holstein. There was a whole block where every single house had a Steve King sign displayed in the front yard. I only saw two signs for Joyce Schlute, and one of them was in a law office downtown.

With all this talk about Orange City and all, thought I'd share some tales...

My dad was going to sell one of our cars to a gentleman from Orange City. The guy drove a little over 30 miles to look at the car and said he'd buy it, but wouldn't complete a monetary transaction on a Sunday.

My friend went up to Orange City on a Sunday to help her Grandma arrage for a garage sale that was to take place the following weekend. Her grandma would not let her open the garage doors to get light for fear that her neighbors would see her and judge her.

Two football players at Northwestern, both of legal drinking age purchased a case of beer from a local convenience store. Their intent was to bring the beer back to their apartment and just chill with some friends while watching a game. The convenience store clerk called the football coach and told him what the boys had purchased. The boys were not allowed to play in the next football game.

Did I mention all of the baby-killer signs along the highways up there?
