Tom Miller - Mike Blouin??? |
|
Tom Miller endorsed Mike Blouin. I really don't know how good this is for Blouin's campaign. Tom Miller stated that Mike Blouin has been a long time personal friend. I believe that knowing Tom Miller is the last Iowa democratic that has able to withstand a statewide election on an anti-choice platform. It seems that they both stand on the same side of the fence, unfortunately for democrats that is not on our side. In the 1990 gubernatorial race Miller got 31% to Avenson's 39% of the primary. Maybe, Blouin is just setting himself up for 30% primary as well. They must have been made for eachother.
I would like to know what other Iowa democrats think about this, please reply.

4. I understand your position, so I won't try to change it |

but I wonder when the last bill re: the death penalty ended up in front of an Iowa Governor - the bill would have to pass through both chambers of the legislature and then still fit the very tight parameters Culver has set out before he would sign it. I think the possibility of it ever reaching his desk are slim and none.
Now, let's look at a woman's right to make her own reproductive health care decisions. When was the last time a bill restricting women's rights passed through both chambers of the legislature (and Democrats voted for it!!) Luckily Vilsack vetoed the most recent one. What about Stem Cell research? Vilsack SIGNED that one.
I would rather support a candidate that I don't agree with on one issue that will in all probability have no chance to sign into law a bill regarding that one issue, than support a candidate who has voted to take away women's rights (Blouin and Judge) and who is trying to erase their past or just flat our lie about what they'll do as Governor.
I just hope that after the primary (and possibly the State Convention) we will all support the Democrat nominee - because if Jim Nussle or Ron Vander Plaats becomes Governor we could end up in having bills regarding both issues passed and those neanderthals will sign em into law in a heart beat!

2. Tom Miller's endorsement changes nothing |
|
You may not like Blouin, but you will vote for him if he is running against evil-incarnate jim nussle, right?
I'm backing the (D) no matter what.

5. Agreed, even if I have to hold my nose to do it |
|
At least with a Democrat Governor we could keep progressing. With a republican Governor we'd have every worker's rights bill and women's rights bill vetoed. We'd be living in the stone age!

If you're just waiting to see who wins the primary, then we're not doing enough as democrats. We need to be looking at who has the best chance against Nussle.
Also, one thing I feel compelled to point out is Iowas brain drain. We are losing young people all over this state. I don't think anyone will be better at reaching our youth than Culver. So you finally caught me, I'm leaning Culver. I haven't completely made up my mind but I know that I won't vote Blouin in the primary. It's important to see what the candidates have down with the youth in Iowa, Culver has set up the ISPAC, Iowa Student Political Awareness Club, with a strong vision to keep youth in Iowa and engaged in the political process I think he'll help curb the loss of our young college graduates. I don't see any other candidate doing more for this issue in Iowa.

9. Culver has not impressed me when I've seen him |
|
I've seen him speak and he was tripping over his tongue. He also did not seem to have a command of facts on voting issues...and I was not alone. Friends that were there were dismayed that he was going to be handed the nomination as no one else seemed to be running yet.
And now for the whole story... that was a few years ago. Some of my pals have said that he is MUCH BETTER with the crowds now and really seems to have everything together. I consider this great news.
I wouldn't say I'm sitting it out, but I find Judge to conservative, Fallon as unelecable (sorry...I just don't see him winning the middle and will not gamble on being proven right). I'm bothered by Blouin's stance on abortion but also by Culver's death penalty position. I guess I need to be WON at this point. Tell those guys to give me a call.

Culver. I'm still weary of being hurt like I was in '04 though. I think one more nasty defeat may be a leathal dose.

3. I don't know that it makes much difference |
|
I think Miller endorsed Lieberman in the Presidential primaries and after the Caucus endorsed Kerry (I guess he thought we forgot about the first endorsement??)
We're 15 years from the 1990 race and women's rights have progressed, and women fighting for their rights have progressed. What happens if Blouin isn't the nominee? We have the majority of the Democratic legislature not supporting our nominee, some unions not supporting our nominee and now the executive board (AG and Sec. of Ag) not supporting the nominee. Shows quite a bit of support for the Democrat huh? :sarcasm: If Blouin isn't the nominee, how do we get the Party back to work?

We show them Nussle. His image. His background. His record. His hypocrisy. Everyone will fall into line perfectly...for if they don't, I'd question if they were ever dems in the first place.

7. Well I like Tom Miller |
|
He really is trying to do right by the peeple of this state. I don't care that he is too conservative for some in here, I like him. He advised me on a legal matter I was having with the phone company and he scared them so bad that the wrong was righted at once. Will his endorsement convince me to vote Blouin? I doubt it,I do have a mind of my own and am perfectly capable of making my own decisions.

My grandfather was being bombarded by the sweepstakes organizations and was buying gobs of garbage hoping to win. The Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General's office put a stop to it. We actually need to call again, now it's the 'Save Social Security' republican groups calling and mailing and scaring the CRAP out of Grandpa.
Miller has done a good job for Iowa (and for Iowans).
