Harkin should stand up and be a democrat..
Senator Harkin needs to stand up for his party and join a filibuster against Judge Alito.. If not now, when?? Does he want to be the leader of Iowa Democrat's or does he want to buckle under and run away from republicans!!

1. Sent him an email last week
to do everything he can to oppose Alito, even that means a fillibuster.

2. Did you get a canned letter back??
I received an email from Harkin but it was a canned letter. It stated that Harkin would make his consideration after the hearing were over. Well Duh. The hearing were over and I was very upset about this piss poor letter. I know its SOP but still. So I fired off another letter and haven't heard back yet. I'm waiting..

3. My husband was on the phone with his COS last week
and passed on our feelings - followed it up with a personal note.

There are days when Harkin is ON and days when he's not. I hope he decides to STAND UP on this one.

5. Although Harkin has had some stellar moments...
...during the BushCo tyranny, I am generally disappointed. All decent, progressive Dems should be
screeching from the rafters about this corrupt administration.

I about died of disappointment when Harkin stood with the Republicans and spoke FOR THEM during the Schaivo debacle.

I've been wondering ever since if he's being blackmailed or threatened.

I did hear that he has come out against Alito. That is good news.

6. Statement from Harkin on Alito
“The new Supreme Court Justice will have a tremendous impact on our society. The decisions before the Court will determine whether we are true to our fundamental national values of fairness and justice for all. Given Judge Alito’s history, record and testimony, I do not feel confident that those future decisions will take us in the right direction.”

7. Even though he's not my senator
I emailed Harkin and asked him to join a filibuster. I reminded him that he's the one who told us at the Wellstone Memorial to "stand up and keep fighting" and that now is his chance.

8. Chiming in to say he's heard from my family as well
I urged him to use "whatever means necessary" to oppose this nomination in a letter, followed by a fax and then by a phone call. The staffer was pleasant and told me at that point Harkin planned to vote against, but didn't provide a stance on the filibuster.

9. I suspect that Harkin
is somewhat , shall I say, "concerned" about Steve King ..........it's time for Harkin to stand tall and tell the reich wing fundies and their hero, Steve KIng to go straight to hell and vote against cloture.....pay backs can be hell, Tom Harkin.

10. Yes he should.
And I'll tell ya right now issues like this are going to be a litmus test for me. If you want my vote you must oppose this administration at EVERY turn.
