Evan Bayh...."Yeah, what Vilsack says"...
Bayh says Democrats must be able to prove they can keep U.S. safe

Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh, who plans to visit Iowa today, on Friday discouraged fellow Democrats from making the Bush administration's use of wiretapping a campaign issue.

"This should not be a political fight," Bayh, who is weighing a campaign for president in 2008, said in a telephone interview.

Bayh, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has repeatedly said Democrats must prove that they understand national security and can keep people safe before they can expect to return to the majority nationally. Republicans control Congress, the White House and a majority of governorships.

"Washington is broken. There's too much gridlock, too much partisanship, too much extreme ideology, not enough progress," said Bayh, a leader among moderate Democrats. "That's got to change."

1. Evan Bayh
Wasn't it Evan Bayh who while on an earlier visit here in Iowa made some comment about the left wing of the Democratic Party, especially its antiwar activists, being a threat to the party?

What with him and that little Joey Biden, who needs Republicans?

3. Welcome Iowasocialist, grab a brew and let's chit-chat.
IIRC, Evan's daddy was one of the 60's progressives that I liked when I was a young man. What little I have heard of Evan Bayh is that he is very cautious about taking a stand. I am beginning to think that these secind generation pols just want the glory without the risks their parents took. Sorry Mr. Culver.

6. Today's Dem leaders
If they put up a statue to honor today's leaders of the Democratic party, I think it would be one with a finger high in the air, to see which way the wind is blowing, and the other hand covering its derriere!
