MyDD....Iowa 1st Distinct a Dem. pick-up??? OH YEA!!!
http://www.mydd.com/story/2006/2/10/119/32630

<snip>

IA-01. Dems: Bruce Braley, Rick Dickinson
This might be our best chance at a pickup in the entire nation. It is an open seat, with a fat 55.4 Dem performance. Kerry received 52.8% of the vote here. Also, outgoing Republican Nussle had been pushed here in the past. Throw in a Democratic lead in the money race, and we are really good to go here.

<snip>

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I don't think that IA-2 should be ignored as Loebsack is running a very well organized and pretty well funded campaign (and I really like Dave, so that makes it easier to cheer for him). Could you imagine Iowa having majority Dem. representation in D.C.? (I know, we'll still have the neanderthal King, but hey...we have to have SOMEONE to make fun of!)

1. Dem majority inb DC - woo hoo! Especially after the state
shamed itself by voting **** in '04. Maybe people would forget that Steve King is from Iowa then and we can regain our reputation as a progressive place to live.

2. We need a progressive Governor and statehouse as well
Man...2006 could be a GREAT year to live in Iowa! :bounce:

3. Hey wait?! What about Gluba?
Bruce Braley and Rick Dickinson? What about Gluba? He's still in the race and most likely will carry Scott County which puts him in solid position. Those other two guys seem to be ignoring Scott County altogether and that isn't wise at all, since we are the most populous area in the district. As I've stated many many times though, whoever wins the nomination, they have to be better than Whalen.

4. About two weeks ago I saw a story on Gluba
where he discussed three people he admired most. John Kennedy, Lane Evans and JIM LEACH! Heckuva job Gluba. He is not in my district, but we don't need crap like that in an election year.
Sorry to see that. I know Gluba has been one of the real backbones of the Dems in Iowa.

6. I think he was trying to get the support of the people in the District
who supported Leach over the Democrat time-after-time-after-time. I can't tell you how many Democrats voted for Leach in Scott County every cycle - I couldn't understand it. The man doesn't deliver anything to his District from Washington and he votes the party line (unless the party doesn't need his vote). Yet Democrats go ahead and stab their own candidate in the back for Leach.

5. Gluba is in REAL trouble money-wise
and I don't think he has the support in Scott County he thinks he does (sorry Bluzmann). He will get a good number of votes out of the county and he deserves the loyalty of those supporting him.

He just hasn't done himself any favors yelling all the time (watched him at the debate at Wartburg College - he was the most informed of all the Democrats - but was screaming into the microphone - people were actually laughing at him - it was awful).

His position against women's rights to make their own reproductive health care decisions is what lost him Black Hawk County in the 2004 primary against Denny Heath and he hasn't gained any support since (unions that endorsed him in 2004 have told him no in 2006). I do see where local Unions have endorsed him and again, I think he does deserve the loyalty of those he served in the Statehouse.

I just think, that if Gluba doesn't come up with some REAL CASH by the next reporting period this race will be between Dickinson and Braley.

I like Bill, I disagree with him on women's rights, but I worked for him in 2004 and can guarantee he'll have my vote in 2006 if he's the nominee. I just don't see it.

7. I never said I am supporting Gluba
I just wanted to point out that he wasn't even mentioned in the original post and like it or not, Scott County ios vitally important to any candidate having a chance to win this district. I am still somewhat undecided. Dickinson seems like he may be a tad bit too conservative, Braley really needs to show up here in person instead of just sending his people , and Gluba may not have any real chance to win, except among the elderly. And believe me, he has the elderly vote wrapped up, at least in Scott County. But as I have said over and over, we have to defeat Whalen or whomever wins the repub nomination. Whalen is popular because of his restaurants and has the rnc backing him up. He will be a tough foe, but I feel that he can be beaten. He is still a neocon.

8. I'm sorry Bluzmann, I didn't mean to say your support was tied up
yet. I agree that as long as Gluba is in the race he should be mentioned in stories about the race. I think the only reason he was left off of the My DD list is because of $$. I do think Gluba will have a good showing in Scott County because he does have a loyal following.

I also agree that other candidates should not ignore Scott County. I wonder, since I don't see much of Dickinson in Black Hawk, if each candidate has his home county tied up in some way?? Gluba goes everywhere, but since I don't see Dickinson here and you don't see Dickinson or Braley there I wonder if Braley doesn't go much to Dubuque County? Anyone in Dubuque County know?

We have a little over two weeks to County Conventions, then I bet we'll be seeing all three of them everywhere. That'll help solidify support for each candidate.

:hi:

9. There is a nasty little fight going on
between Braley and Dickinson right now. One of Braley's people commissioned a poll which came awfully close to being a push-poll. Dickinson, Gluba, and Braley's people were all at the Dubuque Central Committee meeting tonight and it got pretty hot between Dickinson and the Braley people. Gluba stayed out of the fight and actually had a pretty good night at the meeting. I have been a Braley supporter but I had to tell Sara Benzing that I could not and would not put up with that. The poll seriously distorted both Dickinson's and Gluba's records. I am pretty sure the guy behind it was Jeff Link, and he has a history of that type of thing.
