E-mail I sent to DM Register about Thompson endorsement

Earlier this morning I posted about The Des Moines Register's endorsing Repiglican challenger Stan Thompson for Leonard Boswell's Third US Congressional District seat.

That exercise got me worked up enough to send The Register the following e-mail:

With the exception of Senator John Kerry for president, The Des Moines Register has, to this point, endorsed every incumbent Republican member of Iowa's United States congressional delegation and Third district challenger Stan Thompson.

While on the one hand complaining that the state's congressional representation has little or no clout in Washington D.C., The Register's editorial board favors voters of the Third Congressional district electing someone who will have no seniority whatsoever when the new term begins.

And why do The Register's editors take Thompson's statement at face value that he does not support privatizing Social Security and supports reimporting of cheaper Canadian drugs? Thompson is, after all, a corporate lawyer, staunch supporter of President Bush and his policies, and a politician.

So why do the editors think that a freshman Republican congressman would do anything other than toe the Tom DeLay-party-line in the upcoming 109th Congress? Could a Republican House majority that does not work with minority Democrats be the real reason Representative Leonard Boswell's voice is not heard more in the Halls of Congress?

I met Congressman Boswell at the Des Moines Chapter of the Izaak Walton League last Tuesday night and when I reach age 70 I hope am half as vigorous, focused and in touch with the issues that matter to Iowans as is he.

I hope they publish it. And I hope other Democrats in Boswell's district write them too. It just shows how hypocritical our Liberal media has become when they endorse the septuagenarian Repig. Chuck "I never met a big drug company I didn't like" Grassley and complain that Democrat Boswell is too old.
