Too many canvassers in Des Moines
I think this is a VERY good sign. I was scheduled to be at Steelworkers Union at 10am. We "tried" to get there at 9:30 and the parking lot was full, the road to the parking lot was packed, cars were backed up on to second street and second street was backed up onto I-80. Unbelievable. I have never seen such enthusiasm in all of my years in working in Iowa politics.

I was concerned that Kerry's rally at the capital building this afternoon in Des Moines would keep people away from canvassing - the rally is at noon - but I am glad I was wrong. I wanted to come and post this message before heading to the rally and then I am canvassing immediately after the rally and doing absentee ballot pickups tonight.

Also, not sure if posted before, but Iowa Democrats are kicking butt in absentee ballots. We likely have Kerry up 60,000-70,000 votes going into election day. Don't believe me, look at the numbers from the Register article:

I am starting to think that the Iowa Democrats may surprise a sitting congressman or two in Iowa. Maybe Nussle, Leach, or Latham may be upset?!? With this voter turnout I wouldn't count it outside of the realm of possibility.

2. Too many canvassers in Scott County
We also showed up at the Steelworkers Union at 10am here in Bettendorf. They expected 25 to show up and more than 250 volunteers jammed into the hall. I'm just returned before going out to phone bank and walk this afternoon.

Let's take Iowa for Kerry!! On to victory! :bounce:

3. Good to hear!
Couldn't make it out there today, as we are putting the finishing touches on the 50 anniversary party for the parents, but it looks good for the Dems here. I am a block away from headquarters, and it is nearly impossible to park over there. I'll be there on Tuesday too. Welcome to DU from a fellow Quad-Citian!

4. Thanks for the welcome
My wife phone banked this afternoon, and I canvased with 2 high school kids from Scott County North. Nice kids who worked hard for Kerry this afternoon. Still several voters not decided yet and will wait until Tuesday to make up their minds. Lots of others already voted though or very definite for Kerry. :hi:
