I want to know what you all think on the vast amount of time and money spent on the Alito hearings. Was it a waste of time, or worth it, even with the outcome?
I have some things to say, just want to see what everyone else thinks first?

1. imnsho, would have been worth it if the guy had been kicked out on his ear |
|
and the Bushbots instructed to nominate somebody more center-of-the-road.
The farce of bloviating senators and obfuscating candidate should NOT have resulted in letting Alito take a seat on the Supreme Court of the United States.
You asked, right?

Do feel that the amount of money spent on this hearings and vast amounts of democratic efforts spent on this were worth it? Did we even have a shot in the beginning?

3. No, we didn't have a shot at getting a middle-of-the-roader -- |
|
that's why I said the hearings as we actually saw them would have been "worth it" only if they resulted in Alito getting thrown out, and somebody better-qualified being nominated/approved/seated.

4. Would have been worth it had the Dems shown some |

backbone on the filibuster issue. As it was it was almost a painful exercise in shoving the Dems face into the pile of horse poop. I think that the fact that the Dems had a perfect chance to make a stand and tucked their collective tails and ran gave the regressives more ammo for future non-fights.

5. Of course it was worth it |

My mother died of cancer. Prior to her death, we asked her medical team to do everything they could to save her life. Just because they were unsuccessful does not mean their efforts were fruitless.
The same applies here. There comes a time when we, as progressives/liberals/democratic members/whatever name we choose to place on our t-shirts, must take a stand for our values. Whether we are victorious or fail is not a consideration -- the primary objective is to do whatever we can to attempt the outcome we desire.

This isn't really how I had originally looked at it. After seeing how our leadership failed I was thinking more along the lines that our position should be well known but the amount of money on ads and such was a waste.
Hearing the the mother/doctor analogy really works though. I have to agree with you now!

6. I think Joe Biden it right. The system is broken. |

They (the candidates) have been able to non-answer so many questions that the hearings are a waste of time.
The process of chosing SCOTUS justices has evolved over time and I think it's about to evolve again.
