Another little story about last Tuesday's * protest in DM...
As my two friends and I were walking back to the parkade after the protest, three Vietnam vets stopped us and asked us if we thought we had done any good that day. We struck up a conversation, and one of the vets traced the large peace symbol on my bag that holds all my protest signs. He asked me if I knew what the symbol was sometimes called. I asked warily if it had anything to do with "footprints" and he smiled and shook his head.

"We called that the 'Freedom Bird'", he said, still tracing the large outline. "See the nose of the plane, and the two wings pointing down? We knew the Freedom Bird would come fly us home. And we knew that the protesters had our backs."

  :patriot:

1. Thanks for sharing.
I now live in MN, but I'm from Central CA. I know my peace friends in both area's will love this Vet's comments. Central CA is very conservative and I belonged to a group called Peace Fresno.
The Freepers would often protest us, and call us all kinds of hate-filled names. Regularly people came over an screamed in our face as we stood protesting on a busy corner. One of the Freeper's big signs was the peace symbol.. and the words "American Chicken". Personally, I joined the protested when we started bombing Afganistan.. I had images of the women and children who suffered under the Taliban had hidden in the caves that the US was now bombing. I also joined because I had worked at the psych hospital the day Desert Storm started. PTSD affects so many people.
** So here I was trying to stop the War in Iraq and these jerks would scream in my Face.. "What do you know about war".. "were you in Vietnam".. "you hate the troops". ."you are a terrorist supporter".. on and on. There were about 10 of us out there every Friday.
