Iowa Marine Killed in Iraq from "Non-Hostile" Gunshot Wound
"Cpl. Jarrod L. Maher, 21, of Imogene died Friday at Abu Ghraib, a western suburb of Baghdad, according to the Defense Department's Web site.
The 2002 Shenandoah High School graduate was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Camp Pendleton, Calif. His death was under investigation, the Defense Department's Web site said."

1. So, Cpl Maher's death
won't be counted in the total statistics, right? This makes me so sad. (Very good friend in college had the last name of Maher, I wonder if he's related to her.)

So he has no idea if it was an accident, suicide, or something else. It is very sad for his family.

had an interesting story yesterday. Bushie's saturday radio address spoke of 'progress in Iraq.' So Atrios googled 'whitehouse.gov + progress + Iraq + ...' etc. 3400 entries back to march 2003. We're making progress.
My heart just breaks for these folks. Wasted young lives in an idiotic invasion. I wish the 59,017,392 who voted Bush would put there signature on a recruitment document and go to Iraq.
I've got kids of draft age and we are warily watching the situation and checking into Canada or other alternatives.
