Iowa Lawmakers Introduce Iraq War Resolution
Iowa Lawmakers Introduce Iraq War Resolution

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A bipartisan effort by two members of Iowa's Congressional Delegation calls for all U.S. troops to come home from Iraq by December 31st.

In their resolution to Congress, Senate Democrat Tom Harkin and House Republican Jim Leach also call for a guarantee that no permanent U.S. bases be established in Iraq.

President Bush has refused to set a timetable for troop withdrawls. Military officials are currently planning to cut troop levels in Iraq 25% by the end of the year.

----------------------

While I like the idea, this is just more Leach trying to play the moderate card. This just shows how malleable Leach can be when he is feeling pressure from a real threat for his seat (Dave Loebsack). Let's let this be a reminder to us all that Loebsack will need all of our help in getting his name and message out there for him to FINALLY give us a voice in Congress.

1. Leach - this will be what he runs on - just like his vote against
the war in 2002. We can't forget to look at his entire record, or you in the second district can't forget. Leach is beatable and Loebsack can do it. Imagine what it would be like to have a member of Congress who listens to the District on every vote - not just the votes his Party allows him to. :bounce:

2. And the papers - especially the Gazette - will play it up
Always good to see the moderate Leach stick his head up at election time. He could have done something anytime in the last three years. Yet his stance has been "if we are there we should win". He got beat up in West Branch for that.

3. The article posted in LBN was from the Register -- no mention of Leach

:D

While I understand Harkin wants bipartisan support for his bill (and his bill is bigger than any one seat), he must have realized that Leach would use this to pander votes.

Edited to add LBN link:
