Register Endorsements

What do people think of the Register's endorsements?
Will they have impact?
If I remember correctly they were as follows: Blouin, Braley, Schulte, and Whalen.

1. Not as important as they used to be

People used to get their news from the Register and other papers around the state. However, the internet continues to make paper media less important. It certainly gives legitimacy to the candidates, but not much else.

I really wish that Chambers was getting more press. While I like Schulte, she had her chance and failed (quite miserably). I think Chambers could win if this year turns into a national referendum and R's stay home.

2. Schulte...

While I agree with their assessment and endorsement of Joyce Schulte (I'm wearing my Schulte for Congress shirt as I type this), I don't know how much of an effect the Register's endorsement would have. I hope it does, but the two biggest population centers of the 5th District -- Sioux City and Council Bluffs -- are quite far from Des Moines and have influential newspapers of their own.
