Dusky Terry and Denise O'Brien... |
|
What's the difference between these two? Who are you more likely to support?

I voted absentee for Dusky. As a non-expert on anything agriculture, I voted for him on his leadership experience and knowing that he's gotten stuff done while in the governor's office.

I met him at a convention not to long ago and listened to him speak. His leadership skills really stuck out along with his vast knowledge of what needs to be fixed in the agricultural business.

3. I'm leaning toward O'Brien |
|
I was listening to their head-to-head on NPR the other day (Maybe you could download that from their web site?) and Terry came off very polished sounding, especially in the opening statement. O'Brien quickly caught up however.
The two were asked by one of the panalists to distinguish themselves from each other. Both chose experience. O'Brien spoke about her women in agriculture mentoring program, working with Terry's father during the farm crisis, running her own organic farm, etc. What it came down to was the only thing Terry has over her is that he has held a public office previously.
The really good thing is that I like them both very much. I believe either would make a great Secretary of Agriculture because they both genuinely care about the state's farmers, young people, rural areas and environment. I need to go vote this week so I've got to make up my mind!

Terry looked like he had a lot of potential. I liked that he is young (just 30) and has some good experience. He says all the right things.
I heard O'Brien at the 4th District Convention and was very impressed. She definitely has the experience. She is driving a bus that runs on homemade biodiesel around the state, so she is walking the walk (driving the drive?).
I think I am going to vote for O'Brien. I would be happy with either candidate and think both would be better than Patty Judge was.

I think O'Brien will get a lot of voters solely based on that she is a woman. I have talked to a lot of people about the Governor's race and they say they are for Chet because of Patty Judge. I agree that woman should hold higher office, but you should still vote for someone based on their qualifications.
As for the Sec. of Agriculture race both candidates are qualified, so I could see some people just voting for O'Brien.

6. I'll be voting for Terry |
|
My husband knew his father and thought well of him - I met Dusky when he was working for Vilsack back in 1997. He is loyal and knowledgeable (and I hear he's who you call when you want something done)!

7. Well, the Iowa AFL-CIO endorsed Terry |
|
and that's good enough for me. See, the only thing I know about agriculture is that I like to eat. So Terry gets my vote. However, I differ from the Union on the Gubanatorial race. They endorse Blouin, I'm going Fallon, as of today.
